1st gen CRVs are so underrated. They're built like tanks - incredibly tough and durable. They have a lot of personality and really grow on you. I bought a '99 for my son and he drove it until he could afford something "cooler". Just my 2 cents but the aftermarket short ram air system may actually decrease engine performance since it now sucks in all the hot air released by the exhaust system and radiator. Without the enclosure, it does not shield the unwanted hot air from entering the engine.
@GIGABACHI4 жыл бұрын
Flash News: The factory intake sucks hot engine bay air. The inlet pipe to the filter box is shaped like a U, I guess for fording water reasons. I got rid of mine after hacking the filter box. If I had to do it a second time I would cut the U section and leave just enough of it to suck colder air from behind the front bumper and close the hole where it comes up out to engine bay space.
@Camilo198320014 жыл бұрын
Yup, that’s the first thing i noticed, they installed aHOT air intake

SUCH A FILTER DOES NOT WORK WELL, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE ENGINE HAS A HIGH MILEAGE, SORRY FOR CAPS.
@grahamtalsma24952 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Definitely not a power upgrade in a sense. There is less restriction in comparison to the stock intake which makes a miniscule difference, but definitely a more predominant intake sound. At speed the amount of cooler air in the engine bay pretty much breaks even for power. Throttle response does fractionally improve but nothing you would write home about. At the end of the day, it's purely for sound purposes.

The RD1 CRV is the ultimate do everything 90's Honda. Swapping out the stamped/welded exhaust manifold for something that flows better wakes up the top end pretty well. I have a 2007 CR-V 2.4 VTEC. One thing that makes a huge difference in performance without sacrificing gas consumtion is: Get rid of those crappy irridium spark plugs. They are on average $7 a spark plug. And they burn up and start fouling in 2 months. The 2.4 vtec head is the same as early 90s accords. So, I installed the oldskool plugs. $ 1.50 a spark plug. Great throttle response. No more crapping out in a matter of months. It's been a year and still runs fine. The gas consumption never changed. Just power.
