A well known car series performed an engine Dyno test by denting the headers and tail pipes, X-pipe Vs H-pipe, and turbo VS chambered mufflers. After 2.5" pipe, upgrade to bigger diameter few real gains. Turbo muffler to open exhaust thru the pipes was very little HP gain, but did lose fractional torque. Denting the pipes up to 50% did very little to decrease HP. And "X" to"H" was fractional difference.

Dents or crushing in spots doesn't decrease flow as long as you don't reduce the overall volume of the exhaust the flow rate won't change significantly, were the dent is the flow will increase just like the curved part of a airfoil or like putting your thumb over the end of a hose

And the engine and trans combo in these cars is about as good as it can get. ZF makes the best autos on the market and BMW has put out some monstrous engines lately. eäExcept for the inevitable timing chain job there is nothing you have to fear with a B58. But the chains will last a long time granted you change oil often like every 6000-8000 kilometers.

Supra has a torque based ECU meaning none of these bolt-on mods will do anything until the ECU is reflashed which will void the warranty. Basically, there is no way to add hp to these modern turbo cars without voiding the warranty.
@Kona614 жыл бұрын
I’ve got a JB4 currently. It is debatable whether it voids warranties or not but it does add power without flashing the ECU.
@Jaredscott894 жыл бұрын
@@Kona61 No, its debatable if the dealer will notice that you had a JB4. It isn't debatable that the Jb4 voids the engine and partial drive-train warranty.

Would like to see how these intake kit gains change with a hot car. Seems like they're more susceptible to heat soak than the factory airbox
@edwint17804 жыл бұрын
precisely. Turbo cars get a ton of heat soak under the hood. Having that filter just hanging out there in the engine bay without getting covered isn't smart. Especially since the intake is on the same side as the turbo, all the heat is gonna be there.
@Jaredscott894 жыл бұрын

Wasn't that on individual branches of the header? A small obstruction to one cylinder would hurt flow much less than the same amount of obstruction in a pipe that takes half the total exhaust flow. BOTH those back pipes have multiple deep crimps in otherwise beautifully mandrel bent pipes. That has to be deliberate, but why? I'm guessing it's just give the tuners work. ;)

When the hood is closed I believe it seals off the intake from the rest of the engine bay. And cold air is drawn in using ducting to where the OEM filter was located so it should get some nice fresh air

With a turbo and an intercooler, it doesn't matter much where the intake is.
@andy019934 жыл бұрын
@@ViperKillerWannabe if course it matters an intercooler will only cool a set amount of degrees based in atmosphere temps. The hotter the charge is the less efficient it is. Breathing atmosphere air will increase efficiency.

It really, really doesn't make any difference. It's sealed off from the bay enough for heat not to be a major issue, plus the exhaust and turbo is on the other side. Even if it wasn't, you'd have to be sucking in some seriously hot air for it to make even a tiny difference, especially on an intercooled engine. 9 times out of 10 a filter/intake like that makes no real difference to power, their real benefit is giving you all the fun turbo noises
