Thanks for posting this video. I'm about to build a 2x10 and will certainly take this as a reference for a quality build.

I used a biscuit joint on my 6x12 cab, it has held together really well over the few years it's been finished. The downside is that it can be difficult and time consuming to line up your cuts and to get the biscuits to fit right.

Timber is so expensive but I am picking up a solid pine bookcase second hand for $40 for my next project.

can a butt joint be ok for a big mesa sized 412? What if I added a square reinforcement piece at all inside corners...which would allow for the panels to have additional screws into?

Orange 4x12 cabinets are glued with butt joints and they put brad nails in too. I was really surprised considering how overbuilt they are that they didn't use finger joints.

@@CharlesWillisBonsai Orange are more overpriced than overbuilt. Mesa, the same.

Would the butt joint be best with Glue and screws? Any tips for a 412 build? Is that connecting piece from front baffle to rear baffle like in marshall cabs necessary?
@ModulusAmps4 жыл бұрын
Screws or wood dowels to support the joint. Yes you need the stiffener post. It makes a big difference to how the cab responds
@HearGear2 жыл бұрын
The problem with screws is that due to its head its almost impossible to get the corners rounded like a Marshall style cab, with dowels and glue you get a very strong joint but also no problem to round the corners. This method works like a charm even for speaker cabs if you use some extra wood with glue and dowels in on the inside corners of the cab. Cheers...

Butt joints and screws are the most amatuer style. But holes with dowells are very strong!

Butt Holes? plz explain. not being a smartalec, .......where would a dowel go, never even heard of this. I used predrilled holes,wood glue and #6 screws.
@russellesimonetta38354 жыл бұрын
@@97warlock the dowell would go where the predrilled holes go! Screws would be o.k. but wood to wood would be stronger. Look at fender cab, marshall. Vox from the sixties. Almost all are finger jointed and still going!

@@russellesimonetta3835 maybe one DAY i WILL TRY THAT, BUT FOR THE Cab Im about to buil;d soon, I gotta go with screws & wood glue, cuz if ONE hole isnt absolutley perfect all the way down, the dowel wont be centered & I only have hand tools & drills & bits, no high tech stuff.

@@russellesimonetta3835 thanx, Trying to figure out WHY are cabinets the size that they are if the box is sealed. ... Like how do I know how deep to make a box for best speaker performance, or would i get the same performance from a more shallow box since it will be sealed anyway.

Hope the customer asked to have a removable panel on the front of the cab to make swapping tubes easier. Love vox but they should have thought of a way to do that without sacrificing the response of the cab to much.
