This is a really useful thing to have in your toolbox. It also makes a really clean and simple way to check a guitar is grounded properly if you're trying to track down a buzz. Plug it into the guitar, clip your multimeter -ve to the ground terminal, and probe the guitar with the +ve side of the multimeter. You can check continuity to the back of the pots, shielding, bridge, strings, etc.

Very interesting. I'm re-wiring my stereo now and will give my cables the scrape test. Thanks!

Great video. I want to replace the speaker wire on my marshall jcm800 studio combo. The wire that it comes with looks cheap. I want to replace it with a mogami overdrive speaker wire. Not aure how to proceed. The mogami overdrive is super thick and expensive too. Dont want to mess it up.

If you plugged this into the input of an amp would it be a mic? And then if you use the output to send to a interface would it act as a preamp? Thinking sub kick but I’m out of xlr inputs.

If you had bought speaker wire specifically made for this application might one strand been best for positive and the other for negative? Also, wish you had explained how you used the multimeter to determine positive and negative quick disconnect ends. I’m sure it is very basic but for completeness it would have been useful if you explained.

Inside the wire is the same. You just need some way to tell positive and negative apart to wire both ends the same. I tested with a multi-meter for continuity. So tip to end of same wire will read continuity, or close to 0Ohm. Other wire will read open. Just a way to make sure you have the positive and negative the right way round and don't have a short.

Can we directly connect it to speaker without the amplifier and play the guitar?
@MerwinMusic2 жыл бұрын
You could but it would be very quiet. ;)
