Those old speakers were made right here in Kokomo, Indiana. Not to long after they started outsourcing their speakers. It was a neat process to see. Hundreds of women sitting on a line building speakers day in and day out.

+Rick Anderson Well buddy you can take it from me. They built a good product. There wasn't a thing wrong with those speakers after twenty years and as a matter of fact they are going in a 1996 gmc truck next. Quality built in the USA. Used to love seeing that on a product. You knew it was good before you actually used it. Not that way anymore :(

That bird worked so hard for those seeds I'd let him have them too. Nice, clean install of the speakers Paul.

That was a good install. I had a 1976 Chevy 3/4 ton truck and i installed new speakers in it as well. But truck just had single speaker in top middle of dash, well i cut 2 holes in lower part of doors and making sure nothing was in the way first.It turned out good and sounded much better. Thanks for video Paul can't wait to see what all you're going to do to Ol' Blue next. I know after seeing all your videos it will look supreme as the master builder you are!

Well worth the watch bro especially regarding polarity of speakers. Playing the music backwards that is a classic.

Those crows are smart but the smartest one is on the ground...lol I really like how you made the adapter plugs for the speakers. I'm going to have to remember this. Thanks and take care

As an audio enthusiast for many years, good work on the pig tails. The "sync" you're referring to is called, phase. If your speakers are out of phase, you will end up with a loss of bass as you said plus your highs will be a little flat. As well..... you lose the stereo effect. Such an easy mistake to make and to someone who appreciates music... sooo easy to hear the difference once you know what you're listening too. Now...time to go find your video on the head unit install. :)

Good video. I hit the internet to see the dimensions on speaker size before I started on anything. Sure, I know it’s easy to find out the speakers are 4x6 but my concern before I started was the depth. I know on many vehicles it’s small things like a speaker being too deep that will mess up your whole project. I’ve noticed most speakers made for this vehicle are around 2 1/2 which seems to be the norm n fit good. Nice addition to the video on showing people how to keep their speakers in phase by correct polarity btw.

+Paul Short As an electronics engineering student... I have to say, you need to replace the tip of that iron! Or at least get yourself some tip tinner. Nothing ruins soldering like an oxidized tip!
@AureliusR8 жыл бұрын
+Paul Short Also, the foam is to prevent dust and debris from getting in, as well as vibration.
@lolzlarkin30598 жыл бұрын
Good explanation about speaker phase reversal. The way I was told to check it with guitar speakers is to hook up a 9v battery, and touch it on the terminals. one way will make it push forward, the other way will make it pull in. Not sure if that would be too much for a car speaker to handle or not.
@joshuaflatt54372 жыл бұрын
You definitely want the speakers hitting out if they hit inward to hard it will damage the speakers
@markdausy17518 жыл бұрын
paul , those foam pieces are for covering the speaker as to keep junk from falling on the speaker paper and causing a rattle and wear ! .
@78633488 жыл бұрын
+mark dausy Don't think so. The foam is only 1/4 wide and go around the perimeter of the speaker to mimimize vibration according to the instructions. The one your thinking about is a cloth sheet I guess.

I wonder what "secret messages" your buddy will hear when he listens to his music "backwards" ? I've puit speakers into vehicles in the past and it worked out, but certainly didn't know they should be synchronized. Things you learn every day. And yes, the inter-web does take things from guess and by golly to a higher level of success. As an old sergeant used to preach to us - "If you haven't got a plan, you can't screw it up" (simply because you wouldn't know I presume).
@78633488 жыл бұрын
+Bryan Walker Poor guy. He went off before I could tell him the difference lol. Your Sergeant might have a point there too. Every day is a learning day for me. Hope all is well my friend.

Positive usually determines positive or forward motion on a speaker, moving air forward pushing the sound "outward" as the cone pistes out, old JBL pro speakers use to be negative terminal, or black opposed to red was positive. You can use a battery to touch poisitive of battery to terminals which will move the cone. Whichever terminal makes the cone move forward is the positive. Only use short taps, if you hold it on and keep it on, you can burn the voicecoil out if using s 9 volt battery. It's best to use s 1.5 volt battery holding wires to it for testing on smaller speakers

Do the 4x6 in the front also fit in the back? Or would I need to buy 6x9 for the back?
@7863348 Жыл бұрын
I honestly don’t remember. I did the video on May1 2016. Since then I’ve done thousands of different repairs and mods on vehicles. I only left this video up for anyone doing their research.
@joshuaflatt54372 жыл бұрын
He said it doesn't matter if they are hooked up rit yes it does you want the + an - on the correct post cause you can damage voice coils if backwards
@78633482 жыл бұрын
Typically, the positive wire is red and the ground, or negative, is black. However, most speaker wires don't do colors. Good news is, with speakers it doesn't really matter which one you choose as your positive and which as your negative, just so long as you are consistent.
@joshuaflatt54372 жыл бұрын
@@7863348 I've done alot of stereo systems in vehicles and they are not usually red and black unless you are using your own wire alot of house stereo are red an black but definitely not car audio. I happen to know from years of people hooking up speakers wrong will cause damage to your voice coils. So you really should make sure that positive goes to positive an negative goes to negative unless you feel like replacing blown speakers

I have a 90 truck and the aftermarket passenger side speaker magnet hits the air duct below. Yours looked as deep as the ones I attempted to install, but you didn't look like there was an issue with fitment. No issues for installing on the passenger side? Great work on the video, btw! Thanks! It helped me identify two connectors dangling under my dash.

My 1994 has the same issue. Standard 4x6 replacements are too deep. I may have to order new stock speakers instead

Where did you get the chrome trim ? Also I have a 88 with the ugly instrument cluster that don't have needle pointers and thinking about getting one like yours has, do you know if you would have to modify and anything or would it be plug and play ?

Is that a 1/2 ton pickup? It looks like it is. I have been wanting to put an overhead console in my 1990 silverado but haven't been able to find one. Was that OEM on that truck or did you get it aftermarket. Where?

@7863348 Жыл бұрын
Their just plastic covers with plastic tabs. Simply pull up on them. I think one end has a plastic hinge and it swings open to expose the bolt.
