Here is how to install rear speakers on a Chevrolet pick up truck. This also works on any General Motors or GMC pick up truck with an extended cab. To install rear speakers on a Chevrolet pick up truck, you have to remove the rear seat and the armrests and the seatbelts from the back of the truck, which is a lot of work. In this video I show you how to install rear speakers in a Chevrolet truck by cutting the old speakers out and installing new speakers with the speaker grate over them. This is a lot easier to do then taking your whole truck apart. I hope this helps you get rear stereo speakers installed in the back of your truck.
Here is where you can buy panel removal tools if you decide to remove the plastics:

This is what I was thinking of doing but I hadn't even thought about adding grills. I was just going to leave it open, so thanks for the tip. There's no way my 23 year old plastic trim won't shatter into a million pieces if I try to remove it.

I think this is the best way to change the rear speakers on these trucks. Less hassle. Taking the seat out and all the paneling that will end up breaking is unnecessary. Thanks for the vid👍🏽

I think this is a really good idea if you are gonna use factory speaker wire. If you're not going to upgrade the wires then do this. If you do want to pull the panels find the best videos you can to help, even then I broke some plastic in area's where the clips really gripped in the frame and plastic gave. Overall things went back ok but its a really bad design by GM just to get to speakers. I will never take those panels off again, now that I got upgraded wire, if I ever go back in this is the way to go IMO. Good Video.

I put 6" sub speakers down below the cubby hole/armrests area behind the front seats near the floor, with a hole saw lots of room if you pull the bins out and put insulation in it too, it puts out great sound. But I might try that and have 6.

I bought the insulated tape on eBay, for the bottom of my truck where the floor gets hot above the catalytic converter. I think it’s just generic sticky foil heat insulation tape in 8 x12 sheets. I bet there is a product that is better, designed for acoustics. I also bought the speaker grated on eBay, and there are a few different sellers who sell the same thing. Just do a search for 5 x 7 speaker grate and you will find it. I wish there were more attractive options, but 5 x 7 is a strange size.

I bought them from Crutchfield. They are Kickers. I bought a radio and a 1.5 din adapter but haven’t installed it yet. The stock radio CD player sounds fine to me but my son wants something louder with Bluetooth. We bought a Sony MEX-XB100BT, which has a lot more power than most car stereos, so we won’t need to buy an amp. We will do an installation video soon.
