Looking for speaking activities for esl teens? Do you struggle with getting your ESL students talking in class? It can be hard if they are newcomers and are shy about speaking English in class. I have used structured sentence frames with sentence stem examples and it has taken the pressure off of my students to have to think of an entire sentence to say on their own. With a structured sentence frame, they only need to think of a word or a phrase to complete their thought. In this video, I also take you through the steps to putting this into an actual speaking activity with a partner through the use of inside outside circles. I hope these examples of sentence frames for ELLs is helpful for your students. I have found it to be one of the many activities for teaching vocabulary to esl teenagers and applying them by using sentence stems. Get your students talking with these sentence stems. Your studnets will also enjoy them when you incorporate them in English games for esl teens.

I had this issue in my class last year. It's good to have ideas to help support kids who won't speak at all.

Most of my ESL students still don't feel comfortable speaking in other classrooms, but they will try with in my class because they feel safe. I believe if teachers incorporated more games and sentence stems, it will definitely encourage more speaking. However, we must still honor the silent period for our nearly arrived students.
