I judge him based purely on the fact that he worked to put Trump in the White House - which would have been about four years after me, a bum sitting on his sofa, knew Trump was a worthless sack of shit. And that's really the elephant in the room that this podcast is like the 600th to fail to properly address: How did these supposedly intelligent people with purported integrity get there in the first place? Just letting him off with "Oh, I had an ego": Not good enough.

Thanks for the info. Funnily enough to my 'english' ears his 'cadence' sounded remarkedly pleasant and crystal clear with his insights, however unfavourable to Trump, seemed credible and relevant to the point under discussion. And top marks IMHO for eschewing the politicians obsession with 'Leaders' and raising the level of discussion to idendity versus performance politics.

@@tomwithey711nobody denies that the US was based on ideas from the European Enlightenment but we got to do it at scale in a way that frankly most European powers thought would fail. Part of the reason the UK gave up on its military campaign to control the colonies is that it was getting expensive and we’d probably just crumble and ask for them to come back anyway. Very bright? I can't say that about anybody who thinks working for an obviously crazy man was a good idea. The bizarre thing he said in public about Bannon, while it goes to a set of morals first, was a stupid thing to say. I'm listening to this while I'm writing this, and he just said that donnie doesn't know how to hire people-- that gives Tony a point back. If I were considering working for anybody as well known as donnie, I'd do some checking on his background.... and donnie has plenty of *public* background to look at! It's also stupid, (especially at this time before an election), to put down Biden in any way! Putting down Biden makes donnie look a little better. *We don't need that!* Dang, why does he keep putting Biden's looks down?! Who cares what Biden looks like?! Irrelevant and petty! It's really minor, but I seriously wonder about people who worked in a place like the Whitehouse and don't know how to pronounce a high profile figure's name like "Kushner!" And good grief, the woman explained how to pronounce her name, it's "CALM-a-law," not "KAM-a-la." (I think my IQ goes down after listening to Tony.) Added: "PS" This host also shouldn't be putting Biden down.

I'm actually somewhat ashamed of myself that I've just blown Anthony off for so long; this is perhaps the 2nd or 3rd time I've paid closer attention to him, this time more so than ever before and I'm inescapably impressed. Thank you for having him to Guest, I'll be following more closely the rest of this Year as Trump wends his way thru both the judicial and political systems of this Crazy but Amazing country. Are there enough sensible people who could go either way come November who can be swayed away from Trump? I would like to think that the silent majority saw things like Jan 6 and the 41 felony indictments and would be moved enough to not put him back in the White House but like Bill Maher I wouldn’t put anything past this stupid country.

It's funny as an american to see ya'll being so angry these sweet old men. We have very little political context short of the Tony Blair/Iraq connection, but on a personal level they seem like sweet polite gentlemen compared to our political class who are so cutthroat they literally hired The Mooch as their Press Secretary. Rory and Alistair make American politicos look like zombified sharks that live in a sewer. Have you SEEN Rory in a puffer jacket? He's adorable.

He is at least the first to admit, there's no way they were colluding with Russians. With Paul Manifort, the volunteer campaign manager who was just working with Dems and Ukraine, leading. I wonder why there was infighting? He claimed Trump is anti-American, while doing exactly what the other left personalities are pushing. The American Democracy. There's a reason they keep using that word. When our forefathers were vehemently against democracy. Hence that word is never used, even once, in the Constitution or Bill of Rights. They know we are not a Democracy. Sixteen minutes in and it's been used four times. It's obvious by the overuse of it. It's basic psychology, used in an unsuspecting way. He's good...but not that good.

Yes - Scaramucci "Walked the Walk & Talked the Talk", then he got "booted" after 11 days... I don't have warm & fuzzy feelings towards him, but I think he's knowledgeable in the way that the ghost writer for Trump's book is, meaning he's seen things from inside the White House. Eleven days definitely doesn't make him an expect, of course. That being said, I very much enjoy listening to him. Thank you for having him as your guest.

I think this was one of the best so far, what Anthony said about the social contract was very good and really showed what motivates people who vote for Trump or brexit, and if Alistair is listening it’s something he should tell Starmer everyday. Look at what it took to make society fairer in terms of economic distribution after the Great Depression, people get to the point that they know they’re doing a deal with the devil and just don’t care.

Chapeau! One of the most interesting and informative interviews I've been able to follow in recent months. As someone who was born in Berlin very shortly after WW II and who has learned to always observe and try to understand the background of history and stories behind it (e.g. Lawrence of Arabia and the book about it), I have heard so many confirmations for my thoughts and also for my current fears here today as I rarely do otherwise. I wholeheartedly wish Anthony Scaramucci success in his current support of the Democratic campaign team.

Nothing new? Not for what magic trick Rory Stewart was looking for. What I found refreshingly 'new' was the open recognition that far from being 'ignorant gammon', 'the left behind and downright abandoned' knew what and who they were voting for. Someone whose experience of the American dream they could identify with in full knowledge that it would never be on Clinton's menu never mind being delivered. No takeaways for them.
