This was so well explained. I grew up with a Mexican family but was never taught Spanish because my family didn’t want me to struggle in school. I’m currently learning because I want to be apart of my culture and need to know my language. I took some notes and you answered so many questions I had. Knowing the basic funds of Spanish and WHY words are used is so helpful and beneficial. I know I would sometimes learn phrases but not why those specific words were used but that doesn’t help actually learn. Thank you so much!

One of the few things that Spanish shares with Polish, but not with English. Se vive bien - dobrze się żyje (dobrze - bien, się - se, żyje - vive) Como se dice - jak się mówi (jak - como, się - se, dice - mówi) 100% translation. Mówi is 3rd person singular as well as dice, to it is word for word translation. It was way easier for me to understand thanks to it.

Hola, @SpeakSpanishFaster, can you help settle a dispute? In this recent NYTimes headline, *"Caucus de Iowa: esto es lo que puede esperarse la noche del lunes"* (Iowa Caucuses: Here's what to expect Monday night), is "se" in "esperarse" passive, or impersonal? Or neither? And, just so I understand, if it’s the impersonal se, how would the sentence change / be written if it used the passive se? Or vice versa? Gracias, si puedes ayudar :)
