khun Kruu how do I know what tone to use for each word thank you

Vivienne Wan each word has its own tone. If you can’t read Thai scripts, you can see the tone marker on the top of the romanized scripts. But if you can read thai, the tone marker is not telling the tone of the word, you need to learn tones rules. Did I answer your question?

As a Farang I normally have no problem with forming the tone of a Thai word - but recognising it when hearing normal Thai conversations - that's a different story! 😕 However, as you say - practise practise practise!

Brian Heard exactly. But when hearing I think it’s not so important to recognize the tones of each word as long as you understand. Tones also change in spoken Thai and depends on accent of speakers. No need to worry about this so much
