Spearfishing NSW Vol 4
The footage was shot 90% in Sydney but down to Jervis Bay aswell. The clips only contain footage from 2019 dives.
Apart from suffering from a few poor weeks of visibility I’ve managed to sneak out for a few dives so far! I’d just like to state I don’t target Flathead Breeders but it can be really tricky at times to tell who’s the big female and who’s the male lizards when they are buried in the sand so excuse the breeder shot, not my intention.
The shots were taken from numerous dives and I take a variety of fish as I believe it’s the most sustainable way. If I only targeted one or two species like most we would have a significant impact on the stock so diversity is key, it also encourages you to cook and try different methods of prepping fish which is always great for the taste buds.
All fish were of legal size and were speared for consumption, I have a NSW Fishing Licence and abide by catch size limits, daily takes and no fish zones. Over the past 3 years now me and my partner have made the commitment to no longer buy fish so we only eat the fish catch. Spearfishing is the most sustainable form of fishing on the planet, it is also the most environmentally friendly form of fishing.

Hugh Jazz it is indeed but none of the fish were undersize, the GoPro with the super view makes things directly in front of the camera appear smaller until right in close, I wouldn’t be stupid enough to preach sustainability and shoot undersize let alone to then video, edit and upload it online.

Thanks! I rarely do, same with cuttlefish 9/10 i let them go and restrict myself to 1 a month if that. They are one of the most delicious things in the ocean, but i always debate the ethics of eating them sometimes i havent taken any for 6 months. I also find it hard to justify not eating them because they are so intelligent because that unfavours other creatures simplify because they didnt evolve to what we deem as intelligent which also isnt fair

@@WetMammal I head over to Little bay nsw and get them sea urchins never been fine since then limit is 10 sea urchins per person n are allowed to take them from there... Longbay u can't collect or take out seashells n that area not worth getting fine and monitor by fisheries and nosy locals with there binoculars. Only good for spearing fish. Be safe n don't cop a fine like me.

dropnutz woowoo yeah man for sure plenty of places to get them from but remember the intertidal protection area is only from the mean high water mark to 10 meters seaward from the mean low water mark. Anything outside of this is legal and fair game, but I see what you are saying

Jordzz M8 hey bud I spear the eastern suburbs, as long as you aren’t in a marine zone the spearing is pretty good at any spot! Just stay clear of swimmers and boats 🤙🏼

Definitely not some dives I won’t take anything at all and just enjoy the Freediving side and collect litter, or if you were referring to the diverse range of seafood I take it’s due to a personal sustainability preference.

Nicholas lee thanks bro! Yeah if everyone was to spearfish the same 3 species of fish, over time it wouldn’t be sustainable as there would be too much pressure on 3 species when there’s hundreds out there, by spreading the taking across the board and by having some of the less known eating fish it’s more sustainable, ofcourse my impact will have incredibly minimal impact compared to the great ocean but if we as spearos broadened our horizons abit more we might find something new we love. I’ve heard people turn their nose up at some of the things i eat but they’ve never tried it, the most common being sea urchin which is delicious but again not for everyone.
