hey mate, what sort of set up do you use for dogtooth? float and line wise, I'm guessing a reel would be pretty much useless? I spear around South Australia and am yet to test myself on anything wilder than a kingfish but looking to spear some Bluefin in the upcoming season, just got no idea what setup to go for!
@DanielMann7 жыл бұрын
Hi James we had a Riffe bluewater gun with a wing kit, 4 x16mm rubbers, 9.5mm x 1800mm spear, tricut riffe slip tip & coated stainless steel shooting line. Rigline was a 30m Riffe bungie to a Riffe 2 atm float then a shorter 3m bungie and another 2 atm float. Had some doggies take both floats down. If you get the spear into them they don't come off unless they get eaten which lots did. Reel isn't a great option for targeting big big tuna but it can be done of course. Whatever setup you go for make sure you shoot it a few times before the trip. When I eventually return to Australia I will probably make a double roller for big fish like this with an 8.5mm shaft w/twin floppers.

Tyler Conley it is plus you have to get used to it I can go down in deep water and stay down for maybe 40 secs but really deep water I can only stay down for a 1sec and have to rush all the way up

I watch all of your videos, great content and great quality. My question is where do you find all these guys to spear with? In my experience most spearos seem pretty secretive and closed off.
@DanielMann4 жыл бұрын
I would spear with the same half a dozen people in Australia. We’d all like to get out and try new places. Spearfishers can be very guarded abs for good reason. Some places will get abused and they take all their mates there. I have spots I could point on google maps, dive here, this tide with these conditions and you will shoot a barramundi. No way I’m sharing that around with someone who can’t keep tight lips.

Just wondering what you do with the shots that aren't immediatly lethal? Do you use a knife or wait until it's in the boat?
