www.spearfishi...
Batter
250g sifted self raising flour
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
2.5 tbsp curry powder
1 tbsp turmeric
Salt
275ml lager
2 egg whites
Sift the flour and mix in the bicarbonate of soda, curry powder, turmeric and a couple pinches of salt. Add the lager and whisk.
Whisk egg whites in a separate bowl and once fluffy, add to the flour mix. Mix well.
Coat the fish in well seasoned self raising flour, patting it down to remove any lumps.
Drop the fish in the batter and ensure covered in batter mix.
Shallow fry in hot vegetable oil for ~6 minutes (depending on fish thickness) add to oven on a low heat to keep warm whilst you cook the chips.
Chips
Cut Maris Piper potatoes into thin fries.
Shallow fry in oil for 3 mins.
Remove and set aside whilst prepping the fish.
Cook fish.
Shallow fry the chips for a second time for 6 minutes or until starting to brown.
Remove from pan, toss with salt to taste in a colander so excess oil can drain off
Mushy Peas
Ingredients:
Frozen peas
Garlic
Shallot
Butter
Mint leaves
Lemon
Medium heat, fry frozen peas in a pan with garlic, shallots and olive oil.
Once the onions are soft and peas fully defrosted, add a good knob of butter.
Once melted and all is soft, mash the peas and turn off the heat.
Add chopped mint leaves and stir well. Squeeze lemon juice to taste

I think I mentioned once before that I'm not really a fan of spearfishing but had started watching your channel as I've got huge admiration for the physicality of what you do but also how you put the videos together. This is a beautifully edited video and really great to watch. Saying all of this there is still no way you'd get me doing what you do, especially in the winter!!

Interesting points from Barcley regarding the differences between shore and boat diving. I have recently moved from the former to the latter and it does take some concentrating not to get too ‘excited’ descending into the unknown. Comparatively from the shore, you mostly know what you are going down into. It was actually the hardest part of boat diving for me. Do you get used to it?
