In this video, I mount up the Wilwood Aero 6 front brake kit, Performance AFX rear 2-piece rotors, braided lines, and speed bleeders. This is going on a C5 Spec Corvette build.

Nice videos! How do you like the wilwood brakes? Do you have issues with the rotor? Like cracking or so?
@joshc1017 Жыл бұрын
The rotors have been great, as have the calipers. The only issue I had was with BP30 front pads disintegrating. Wilwood changed manufacturers for those last fall, so I don’t have any laps on the new pads yet.

@@joshc1017 Thank you for the feedback, I recently also bought a wilwood kit. I was a bit worried because the rotor is 2 piece but not floating. I have a boosted S2000. I always use Hawk dtc-60 pads, with a smaller braking system.

What are all the part numbers? I was able to get the calipers, rotor blanks and caliper mounts. Not the bleeders, other bolts, pads, or hats.

Would you recommend this as an upgrade if I’m running a C6 Grand Sport that’s just seeing HPDE?
@joshc1017 Жыл бұрын
I’ve been happy with the Wilwoods and do recommend them, assuming you’re hitting the limits with the stock setup. We run upgraded front brakes in Spec Corvette because the stock rotors tend to crack under heavy use.

What hubs did you use? thank you
@joshc101710 ай бұрын
For this build, I bought the SKF hubs from TPS Motorsports. For the other build, I got them from Phoenix Performance. Both are good sources. I do recommend going with the longer studs. Makes changing wheels easier.

where did you order the wilwoods from ? Part number 140-14557 right?
@joshc10172 жыл бұрын
I ordered it from TPS Motorsports. Not sure of the part number for the kit. I called in to place the order. If you’re a registered Spec racer, you need to do that to get the discount.

@@joshc1017 any idea about weight savings? Ap claim 16lb I don't see anything for the wilwoods
@joshc10172 жыл бұрын
@@hamburgerman187 I've never seen a weight comparison for them. I don't have a spare caliper, otherwise I'd weigh it for you.

I wish special Corvett allowed AP brakes.

Are you having problems with the Wilwoods? The only problem I’ve had so far is with a couple sets of brake pads that disintegrated on me. The calipers and rotors have been great.
@georgebrooks582 жыл бұрын
@@joshc1017 haven’t even tried the willwoods. I went rite to the AP 9660 front and rear kit. The brake pad quick changing ability is AWSOME.
@joshc10172 жыл бұрын
@@georgebrooks58 yeah, it would be nice to be able to change pads without removing the entire caliper.

What camber setting do you run?
@joshc10172 жыл бұрын
The car seems to need a bit more camber with the rear spoiler. 1.5 rear and 2.7 front is where I have it now. I haven’t done tire temps, but wear is looking much better with these higher settings.
@georgebrooks582 жыл бұрын
@@joshc1017 mine is at 1.5 rear and 3.0 front. No aero on the car yet. I’m having a problem with the back end losing grip. I’m thinking of going with the 9 lives racing aero kit high downforce. As I’m currently participating in time attack events with speed sf. Those dang S2000 are out cornering me making it very hard to succeed.

@@georgebrooks58 The C5 tends to be tail happy without additional down force in the rear but there’s a fair amount you can do to address it with alignment and ride height. For example if you dial your rake down close to zero that will help a lot at turn-in. Also, running extra toe in for the rear helps quite a bit. Without the spoiler I liked 1/4 inch total toe in. If you add down force in the rear it will shift the problem to the front. I don’t recommend doing a high down force rear without also adding down force to the front somehow. Just adding the spec spoiler solved the oversteer issue but created a decent amount of push in the front. As a result, the alignment and damper settings are totally different.
