I was in the USAF from 1974 to 1980 three of which I was a jet engine mechanic. The common jokes was to tell the new guy to new a bucket of prop wash, or K9P and then we made the mistake to tell a new guy to get a 100 yards of flight line. Well at the time MacDill AFB was redoing part of the flight line so....he showed up with the shop truck loaded with chunks of the old flight line and dumped them into the center of the hangar.

God I forgot this one. Did you guys get the rumored square needle (hypo) in the left nut warning as part of your physical? One day the drill instructor gave us this speech that we are going to march to the hospital and don't worry everyone gets this and it is just part of being a man. So brave up and lets get it done. Talk about a quiet group of scared fools marching slowly to the hospital and one by one walking to the same room where got our shots a few days earlier. They just checked out the sites where we got the pneumatic shots and let us go. As we walked out the two drill instructors were just laughing and pointing at us. Then we got the briefing on rumors. Sick bastards.

Another doubter of the chemlight story. Glass shards aren't going to cut your urethra causing blood in the urine. Worst case is they cut various parts of your digestive tract causing bloody stools or internal bleeding. To cut your urethra, they would have to be absorbed into your blood stream, travel through various organs finally ending up in the kidney then bladder. Some suggest the oxalate compound formed kidney stones, maybe but those take a long time to grow large enough to be painful or cause bleeding.

My mum was in the Royal Signals about 30/40 years ago. The story that always stuck with her was her CS Training. They all go into a room filled with CS gas wearing gas masks and the instructor goes along and asks each one in turn to remove their mask and give their name, rank and number. My mum was ready, takes a deep breath, whips her mask off and rattles off her info without inhaling. The instructor looks her in the eyes for a second and just says "what?". My mum instinctively takes a breath to repeat herself and just starts choking and coughing like crazy.

Exactly, but I'm more surprised that the body would absorb the cristal and pass it through the veins, liver and heart then arteries filtrated by the kidneys and end up un the bladder to be expelled from the urethra? That's virtually impossible at least with glass big enough to produce lacerations

So, I have two stories from my time in the FDF. Me and my friend were assigned to perimeter guard for an armored battallion exercise, basically our job was to just make sure no unauthorized vehicles or personnel entered the firing zone. At night my friend was sitting in our guard shack doing whatever while I was outside taking a leak. All of a sudden my friend just rushes out from the shack with a knife in his hand and whispers me "I heard something in the woods". I grab my rifle and we both went to investigate, he searches the woods behind the guard shack with his flashlight and lo and behold, there's a moose just looking at us, honestly even if you have a rifle on hand, staring down a big ass moose is scary. Second story from the same assignment was bit funnier, and involves some slight rules bending/breaking. We were instructed that we could eat our MREs provided to us, or scrounge up more food if needed (orders were slightly unclear on how they worded it), so me and my buddy went to the officers/NCOs (we were both corporals) chow hall which was also in the middle of the woods in this larger exercise area we were, and basically yoinked all of the energy drink powder, chocolate and other small things we could stuff into our cargo pockets and just left. When exiting the building a sergeant from the armored battalion was standing on the door as we were exiting and asked WTF are we doing, I explained to him that we're allowed to eat there since we're also NCOs and also since we're MPs on guard duty, technically by the rules, we outrank him so I just said straight up to his face "unless you want to get your ass hauled to a cell, you leave us alone. Either he was just so bewildered by what he just witnessed or IDK that he just left us leave without any incident. (guess that was one of the MP benefits, you take shit from nobody and nobody takes shit from you if you're on guard duty)

Yeah, I remember the old crusty dry guy and Brother Man. I don't really talk about MEPS because I remember some of my high school friends not being accepted into the military for the ever important to not have, red/green color blindness, although I believe one was due to his family's history with the military, the Army in particular. Some people were accepted if they had a blue/yellow color blindness in the Navy or some of the less common pink/purple and green/yellow color blindness in the Air Force. The touching the balls part was to make sure you didn't have twisted testes as that could go unnoticed as a civilian but could become an excruciatingly painful condition that could cause you to die even in Basic and hardly anyone would believe you because people used to lie all the time to get out of doing physical drills and PT because at that time, that was pre-9/11 when the people joining the military did so for a stable job and to be made into a better person if they were kind of a troubled person when younger. Now grid squares and chem light batteries I can talk about! but not yet and something I'm going to save for a story to tell my daughter who will be joining the Army.

In 1997 we were on excersise in northumberland in England for an couple of weeks. One day the mortar Platoon of the British 3 Para came also on excersise. Because we were Belgian Para Commandos we invited them in our bar. So they accepted ofcourse a fraternisaton drink. Lets say there was a lot of drinking Belgian beers until one of the squadies pulled down his trousers took a can of jupiler beer hangs the ring on his prince Albert piercing and started dangling the beer front to back like a bell tower first we were in awe but then we started laughing like crazy.

I was that guy who you ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY DO NOT pull those "fool's errands" (keys to the humvee, etc.) on...try that on me and I swear to Dog I WILL come back with something. My naval career was cut short by my heart murmur, which was something the Navy was already aware of but panicked when I got to San Diego (which has long since closed down...I went in in the same year the L.A. MEPS burned down during the LA riots...apparently they rebuilt by the time Cam and Izzy got there) so I was merely waiting to be properly discharged. One day, as something to do, I was sent to the USS Recruit, a ship mockup on dry land for training (still there to this day) to get a "gun report"...smelling bullshit I went to the "ship's" captain and explained my situation and proposed a "solution"...I brought back a signed letter that explained that the "ship's" guns were "still non-operational.: (A "gun report" on their status... a real "gun report" is the bang a gun makes when fired.) At an event I attend I frequently bring items for said gags...for years I kept a box of "grit squares" (grid sections of as local map cut up and put in a small storage box), chemlight batteries (miniature glow-sticks for parties), PRC-E4 fluid (3-in-1 oil), and my "line of sight" is sitting here on my desk (old-school brass rangefinder). I was like this as a Boy Scout too...gods help you if you sent me for a "bacon stretcher" or "left-handed smoke shifter"...

I have a story of my father escaping the Soviet army, after Ukraine declared independence from the USSR. Since he was Ukrainian, and his brother, with some other guys maybe, escaped their base, in a deep cold winter. They were harassed physically really bad, pretty much because they were Ukrainians and their/my country declared independence, and the government with the Russian drafted guys were not happy about it, so they had no choice but to escape, 'cause the Russians there would kill him and not only him I'm pretty sure, or leave him in a way worse condition. And so, in the morning when they had usual training, they packed their stuff, as he said, sneaked through, climbed over the fences, and proceeded to go on foot to Moscow, where they took a train and fled home to Ukraine. He had severe freezing of his feet, and from all the abuse and beating, his chest was caved in. And he still took it as a responsibility to finish his military service as needed to, and in a period of about a month, he was in the Ukrainian army serving the remaining time.

Military camp confession for the Navy and my first NJP. earlier on in my Ensign years I was a divisional officer (DIVO) and came from 4 years enlisted in the Coast Guard, before I was stationed on a small cutter with only 20 people on the boat where you know everyone personally. In the navy after ROTC I get stationed on a DDG and during urine tests I would jokingly rate sailors wieners until someone reported me… 4 months reduction in pay… but also when it was my turn to pee and be watched I would yell “RELIEVE THE NOZZLEMAN” (basically used in firefighting when you want someone to take over the fire hose) also reprimanded by the CDR. Also a bar fight but that’s a different story.

It seems the only part anyone really remembers because of how strange it was was the stripping down to your underwear in a room with groups of like 20-40 and walking across the room, especially the duck walk. While a few doctors with clipboards looked on. So bloody strange. I know it's supposedly so they can see if anyone has some weird degenerative bone/tendon/tissue issues without having to X-ray everyone, but damn, still weird to do.
