As a Marine, if you loose your wallet, sure enough another Marine will find it. He’ll find you and bring it back with all the cash and cards still in it. But, if you leave a piece of gear laying around…it’s gone. You’ll never see it again. “Gear adrift is a gift”.

I got home and acted like I WAS BRAND NEW. $475 every two weeks doesn't sound like much, but when you consider that's $950/month with ZERO obligation...no rent, no food, no utilities, no cable...the only thing I was responsible for truly was laundry and toiletries. i can so relate! i joined usaf in 1982. did my hitch then went ang. if i'd known the reserves was so much better, i'd have started there. ang has commanders that have a day job, so they get it.

I joined the Navy lol! But my recruiter lied, had me pack a big bag buying all this shit I don’t need told me to go in undesignated so I can pick and job I want within 3 months hahahaha let’s just say it was a lie! But it was the best time of my life! Seen so many different countries even got to go to my mother land of Africa that was enough for me worth all the sacrifice!

Back in 1969 I made $123 a month as a E-1 in the Marine Corp. A year later as an E-3, I made $155 plus combat pay was another $60 a month. I kept $20 a month and sent the rest home to my parents.

$24k in military is $60,000 civilian. Top grade medical care, excellent benefits, free housing or housing allowance, food is free that’s at least $10,000 a year minimum, clothing as well. It’s endless. My uncle is an Admiral. It wouldn’t surprise me if he makes $250,000 annually. Commanding a battleship is extensive experience.
