As more and more time passes through the game, Walker loses his sanity, and his insistence that not only did Konrad do this, but that he should be killed lead to his eventual downfall. The 33rd, the innocent civilians caught up in this mess, and even his own squad are all victims of Captain Walker. If he stopped and realized what he was doing sooner rather then later, many deaths could've been prevented, yet on he marched, and for what?

Roblereck I know I’m more than late to be replying to this, but every time someone says that he died in beginning and think that Walker killing himself would let him escape doesn’t add up to me. It’s not specifically the possibility that he is in some type of purgatory or hell, but the idea that suicide would get him out of it somehow. Suicide itself was considered a specific reason people would go to purgatory after they died, you kill yourself you put your soul in purgatory, so why would that suddenly get Walker out of it? If Walker is suppose to realize and accept what he’s done then wouldn’t suicide be an explicit sign that he didn’t want to accept it or at the least couldn’t handle it?

I think the best part about this whole game is Nolan North, as Walker's voice. You usually hear North in these kind of light hearted roles like the Prince from PoP 2008 or Nathan Drake. This was the first time we've seen him give voice to an actually ''evil'' character, and it's just amazing how he goes from the simple soldier to a raving lunatic throughout the story. How the ''Need some cover while I'm reloading'' changes to ''Fuck, I have to reload'', how the ''Tango down'' changes to ''Fuck you'' and ''Killed that son of a bitch''. Just from his voice alone the character progression is absolutely followable.

This track perfectly subverts the “badass action rock music” trope you’ll find in other FPS shooters’ final levels or intense moments. Instead it’s somber, heavy, depressing and ominous. At this point in the game there’s nothing left worthy to fight for anymore, no clear goal in sight. It’s a pure, almost feral, fight for survival in a place that you wrought so much destruction on, that you helped raze to the ground (along with all the people in it). It's sad. I never played the game, but I watched a person play it on KZbin. There was no commentary or facecam, so it was really just me and the characters in that world. I hated the game for all the disgusting imagry and the situations the group was placed in, but realized it was my choice solely to watch the video. Even if you're not the player, you still are at fault, just knowing if you pick up the game, you could be the player at anytime. You could be the reason they're suffering. It's deep shit, man.

Yeah, and this one is pretty much the best of all SO:TL's soundtrack. It just makes my brain shut down and I'm feeling like I want to shoot, I want to brake bones... this isn't just a game... it's an art.

Do you think this is an uplifting, mesmerising soundtrack, designed to see a valiant man's last push through to victory? Is this a melody that tugs at the heartstrings, that rallies the love and compassion for everything that we fight for? Does this sound like the song of a hero?
@ChadVulpes10 жыл бұрын
***** No, it sounds... like dementia. Like a last brutal cry of sanity within a man. Within Walker. Within us - everyone who played through Spec Ops: The Line. None of us wanted what to happened. We.. At that point we didn't want to have anything in common with what we've became... Yet, we were still pushing forward. For what exactly, I think none of us can say for sure, but it doesn't really matter... We did it and we completed the "art"... Whenever I hear this, I stop being myself... I'm just... It's hard to explain. I just want to be "in-motion" again. I want to be back there - killing everyone in rage. As much as I know I shouldn't, but I still do want it... And it disgusts me. This game... It's not just a game.
@TamiyaGuy12310 жыл бұрын
Interesting, that you use the word "rage" when describing the gatehouse. I... well, I felt nothing, I was just killing because, for the past eight hours, that's all I had ever done. I'd just killed and killed and killed, and for what? For nothing. In the words of Adams, "Why not? No-one lives forever." And you're damn right about your last comment. No matter whether people "enjoyed" The Line or not, they thought it was good or bad, I have heard almost universal praise in saying that this game is *important*.
@ChadVulpes10 жыл бұрын
***** I didn't use word "rage" as something that specific... I just meant the state of my mind whenever I hear this. I just don't think when I hear it. I just want to shoot those poor, fictional soldiers to death. Even when they die I still want to shoot them. I think it came from the last fighting chapter. "The Bridge". This music plays. When I play on FUBAR and die multiple times in a row - I get infuriated. But on this level something weird happens... this song plays... and I just keep respawning and don't care if I die... I'll have chance to shoot and beat them all to death. And - for sure - this game is almost awfully underrated. Practically no one knows of this... game if may I call it. P.S.: Thank you for making a good discussion with me, kind sir.

I shot myself at the end because I couldn't deal with what the game was trying to teach me. I've never cried because of a video game before this, and I haven't since, but Jesus Christ... war is hell, and we make a game out of it. In my opinion, this was the most powerful video game in terms of story ever created. Nothing else is even close to this real. But maybe that's for the best.
@OnyxAlchemyst9 жыл бұрын
darkfireslide I felt so horrible at the end, personally, I chose not to shoot myself. Instead, I started shooting at the air when the rescue team arrived they would shoot me dead. In my mind, I had become the villain, so I should have a death more fitting of one, by the hands of ones more virtuous than me. I also thought of it as a way for some retribution to be paid for the lives of the soldiers I had killed.

+laura A watching the movie "Apocalypse Now" puts this game into a better context. The thing is, delving into the game's lore, is that Dubai was already a war zone when you arrived. Everything that happened in the game isn't your fault, but it's undeniable that Walker was the spark that set the entire city ablaze. Yet it's also Konrad's fault for trying to do the same thing, only with a whole division at his back- yet he was no more successful than Walker was. The point of Spec Ops, of Apocalypse Now, and even Heart of Darkness, isn't just to portray the protagonist as a problem; rather, the point is that in war, no one is a winner, and there is no salvation for those condemned to situations that have gone this horribly wrong. That's the real takeaway. All we can do is show respect for those who have had to go through something like this and had the misfortune to survive.

You're completely wrong. The point of the game was showing you how the protagonist was a horrible, selfish person. He went on the mission so he could feel like an action hero saving the day, even though it wasn't the time and place for that. In the end he's ruined and ended lives that could have just been left alone, while having helped nobody, all out of an insecure need to reaffirm his masculinity. It's all to show how meaningless conflicts like the US interventions in the middle east are, and how ignorant the soldiers in the US army is. They're not going there to help anyone but themselves, so they can feel like "men" and "heroes". In reality they'll become homeless, mentally ill and cause destruction to the lives of innocent people.

Please try keeping your personal views of the real world out of it.

@@gua5432 You're the one who is biased because of personal views. The "point of the game" couldn't be any more obvious, it's shoved in your face numerous times. The game has a very clear anti-war message with how it makes fun of other FPS games, showing the consequences of war and portrays american soldiers as selfish idiots who don't really care about the political ramifications of their actions, they just want to feel like "heroes" by shooting brown people in countries that has been exploited by the western civilization for hundreds of years. If you think it's as shallow as "the main character had good intentions but screwed up" you're delusional and trivializing the work of the writers.

@@Kushufy Would you have said the same if the main protagonists were from SAS or KSK? You're pushing your own view of the US military onto the game. Also, just FYI - some of the intel you find strongly implies that the Saudi government purposefully didn't proceed with the evacuation as fast as possible, and that they even ordered the murder of a foreign aid worker.
