Zaytuna College President, Hamza Yusuf has just returned from several weeks of travel that included stops in Toronto for RIS and in Marrakech, Morocco, for a conference co-sponsored by the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies, led by Shaykh Abdallah bin Bayyah. The conference resulted in the Marrakech Declaration, which commits Muslim scholars and intellectuals to develop a more inclusive concept of citizenship that protects the rights of religious minorities in Muslim lands. During this session, he will outline the global intellectual challenges facing Muslims today, especially in relation to his most recent travels and activities.

@mr.mikaeel6264 3 жыл бұрын
@@Shorish maybe he means ijaza? which is some form of authorisation (i guess in this context) to make things legitimate. Like a license, in order for the sheikh and his teachers to legally practice what they preach. I think they already did loads of good work but i'm not so much into politics so i will leave it at that.

Enlightening if anything. Beautiful as usual but only if you value your time and understand that you need meaning if anyone can just present meaning and if it can convince your heart. No matter how encyclopaedic his knowledge what matters is that you set aside some time and love for knowledge is your aim.

That is a spiritual question. Is like asking How do you get the brightness of understanding? If you're a muslim you know that just reading and gaining heaps of knowledge is not enough without gaining divine guidance at the same time. If knowledge and guidance are interlocked that ensures understanding. In Tassawuf aka as Sufism, the Sheikh is your guide.... Your question is deep.

" The Islamic teachings have left great traditions for equitable and gentle dealings and behaviour and inspire people with nobility and tolerance. These are human teachings of the highest order and at the same time practicable. These teachings brought into existence a society in which hard-heartedness and collective oppression and injustice were the least as compared with all other societies preceding it....Islam is replete with gentleness, courtesy and fraternity." The Quran, Allah's noble words, are for anyone and everyone. The holy Quran is a guide of life for all. Now in order to be an EXPERT and intellectual scholar of the blessed Quran, then you need many many and many years for one to be entitled for that thorough qualification. And Allah knows best • I hope you got the difference. May kind Allah infinitely make us all be of those righteous and outmost knowledgeable saints and scholars, Allah huma eternal ameen ]PEACE[

+SomeGuy Anyone can derive guidance and benefit from the Qur'an, without extensive study. However, when it comes to passing legal opinions or formulating creeds, one must obviously be well versed to minimize the potential for errors in understanding.

you don't have to go past the first 20 minutes to see how he contradicts himself. on the one hand he says salafism is appealing because they follow the first generations and ignores 1400 years of tradition, on the other hand when it comes to the ruling with regard how to take jizyah and whether non muslims should be humiliated he wants to ignore the 1400 years tradition and go back to the time of the Prophet saws and his companions ra. I find this inconsistency is common with sufis, they cherry pick where they want to take from, usually to try and make a more modernist liberal islam. i am sure his view on dealing with apostates is not the one found among the early generations.

+xingyimaster1987 Perhaps because like he mentioned...polity(did i spell it right?)was prophesied by the Prophet to last only for the first 30 years. So when it comes to jizyah-taking and treatment of non-muslims we go back to those 30 years. But other things that happened after...we take what is good and leave what is bad or things that are inappropriate for this era. Like arts and architecture and all that shouldn't be thrown away along with many other things....understanding of Kalam perhaps...or philosophy. But if you are talking about treatment of non-muslims and jizyah...maybe he referred back to the companions' time because of what the Prophet said about it lasting only for 30 years? This is from what i understand. Feel free to point things out :)

+Theoneaboveall1, thank you brother/sister, I appreciate what you say. i have been listening to hamza yusuf for years and I find it very common that he either contradicts himself with regard to what he says, or he openly contradicts what the Quran says. I am happy to provide clear examples. my sincere advice is don't take from this man of doubts and desires. in his own words at 1:05:20, there are aspects of this beautiful religion he finds "dark" and that "bother" him. i find it amazing for a caller to Islam to make such blasphemous statements. stick with the major scholars of ahlusunnah my brother/sister in Islam.
@mohammadnurfiqri2831
@mohammadnurfiqri2831 8 жыл бұрын
+xingyimaster1987 you misquoted him tho about him finding dark things in the 'traditions'. He said he read things in the books that bothered him. From our history/tradition. It could mean the conduct of the kings,it could mean the interpretations of scholars which seem to be unethical(like the one mentioned about humiliating the non-Muslims who pay jizya). Surely you disagree with the sultans in our history who massacred people. Right?
@xingyimaster1987
@xingyimaster1987 8 жыл бұрын
+Theoneaboveall1, his exact words are "our religion, our tradition has a lot of horrible things", thats not a misquote. he says that to ADD to his point about "our history having a lot of dark things. so he makes a clear distinction. please re-listen properly. i find some things that muslims have done in history horrible for sure. i don't find anything in the religion horrible as Hamza Yusuf does. so my sincere advice is not to follow someone like this

@xingyimaster1987 8 жыл бұрын
+Yassin Zao, well your enlightened shaykh himself admits salafism is appealing in this very video, so who are you to argue? i suppose dancing around and making up your own islam is appealing for sufis who aren't happy with following the actual revelation.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Would Allah still punish us for RIBAH/interest/usury even though the whole world is engulfed in it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Islam and Money Written by Imran Nazar Hosein, Graduate of Graduate Institute of International Relations in Switzerland. Allah will hold you to account for that Riba which you can avoid even if you had to flee to the mountains sides where rain falls and take with you some sheep and goats. Imran Hosein - THE PROHIBITION of RIBA (Interest) [FULL VIDEO] kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHzQZH1pnK-JbsU This shaykh has deep understanding of the harm of RIBA. After listening to his lecture I understood why Allah SWT has declared war on people who deal with RIBA in society, because these people give power to control money to money landers/bankers who in turn put people in slavery and hardship and also can finance a war just by printing unlimited amount of paper money and kills those who oppose them. And the blood of those innocent people are also on the hands of those who give them RIBA/interest on loan money. Those who are willingly cooperate with them for a small worldly gain will be with Abu Lahab and Abu Jahal in hellfire for ever because they also financed war against believers. Allah SWT is not only very merciful but also stern punisher.
