Ad| Come with me, a wheelchair user, as we check out London Gatwick’s revamped station on the Gatwick Express from London Victoria.
What's pretty awesome about this service is, Special Assistance is always on hand, and I didn’t need to book, making it super easy to travel to London Gatwick from any of London's key stations and beyond.
Arriving into London Gatwick I was met by friendly and efficient staff to help me with my luggage and to get to the Airport terminal. The station has had a multi million pound upgrade, widening platform 5 & 6, installing 5 huge lifts with brail embossed buttons, & doubling the size of the concourse, making it so much easier for me to move around in my wheelchair, and people with prams and suitcases.
Arriving at the new Special Assistance desk it was clearly visible, spacious and accessible, providing increased access to customer information screens. It has had new hearing loops installed providing increased access to announcements for deaf and hard of hearing passengers.
Once at the desk the staff radioed ahead to the airport special assistance staff who were able to escort me to the check in desk, ready for my flight to somewhere hot and sunny.
Fun fact. London Gatwick was the first airport in the WORLD to have a direct rail link. Let me know, are you going away over the holidays? Has this service inspired you to catch the train to the airport? Or are you flying into London Gatwick, and now planning to take this service straight into the City?
