Notice on guitar fretboards, maple is very bright sounding, rosewood is more round and soft sounding. Tone woods make alot of difference.

What a lovely sound! I also adore walnut for the warmth and aesthetic, too. I have a sitka spruce harp which sounds warm. Many different woods do have different qualities and it's pretty much a matter of preference, I think. Great video. Happy harping! :)

Thanks for posting this and explaining the difference in string tension compared to the regular fullsicle and "standard" lever harp. I have a dusty strings ravenna and a pedal harp - to me the "regular" fullsicle is like playing on cooked spaghetti, I don't enjoy it and I can't play as well as I normally can on my ravenna. sounds like the special edition fullsicle would match my playing style much better!

So glad to help! Yes the special edition has much better tension on the lower strings, but it is still a bit looser than the Ravenna 34 😊

BTW, pardon my lack of manners: I've seen several of your videos - lyers and small harps; they are all awesome and inspiring. Than you!

Thank you! This is a great question. I think it really depends on what your future goals are. If you are brand new to music and you don't think you'll ever move up to a bigger harp, a lyre isn't a big investment. If you think you may move up or you will progress quickly, a harp would be worth the investment! Just to get used to using both hands and having the correct string spacing 😊

I have played very little of very few things but have a very basic knowledge of music. I'm looking at the Lyre and a small harp. What would you recommend for a beginner?

Hello Molly ! A little question about tension in the strings : you said lower strings have more tension in the special edition than in the regular, what about the other strings ? Is there more tension too in the SE than in the regular one ? (maybe you said it in the video but my english listening is very poor I am so sorry about it ! ^^') I play on a gut strings harp and I would like to know which one would suit me. Thank you in advance !

Thank you so much! I took about two months of lessons to get oriented on the harp but haven't since - my schedule is all over the place so it's hard for me to find consistent free time 😅

Thank you so much for the review, Molly! I'm looking to buy one harp like this too, would love to play it while standing. But the link you put in description for Amazon - it shows it's not available :( although you made this video just few hours ago, so I'm surprised. What is the price approximately? Are you from the US or Europe? Thanks so much! ❤️

Looks like Amazon is showing that it's available, though it says it takes 3 to 5 weeks to ship to the US. I'm guessing Molly lives in the US. The price on Amazon is $1,245, which is the same price as on the Harpsicle website. Frankly, if I were buying something for that amount, I'd order straight from the company. If there's anything that needs to be changed or fixed (though the Harpsicle company does quality work), you don't have to go through Amazon. Just my opinion. :)

@@rainbowgryphon thank you so much for checking it out! 😊 It makes sense, I will probably order the harp straight from the harp maker and with it a harp stand too 😊 I think it's showing unavailable for me on Amazon because I'm from Europe, so I'll try to figure out what's the best option and from where they are shipping. Thanks so much and have a nice day! ❤️

@Musical Molly Khan - Hiiiiii 😘 I went to another time dimension and met up with Genghis Khan and he says hello. He got drunk and we sort of, took over Syria. That was.......eventful....but anyways, that back stick thing, you mentioned was "walnut stained". Does that mean that it's not actually walnut? Also, same question for the harp. Is it possible that the harp is just a Walnut Stain or is it actually Sapwood Walnut? I say Sapwood because Walnut isn't actually all deep dark espresso brown. That's actually called Heartwood Walnut. So the harp you have actually is a Sapwood Walnut which is a lighter shade and comes from the outer layers of the tree that surrounds the heart wood part of the tree. The cost per board foot for Walnut can range from 2 dollars per foot for the lightest shades of Sapwood and up to 35 dollars per foot for the deepest darkest Heartwood shades and can even have hues of purple or grey as well. Pretty Expensive wood but not as expensive as the sought-after Teak wood which at my old job selling different types of specialty hardwoods, this was 4-5 years ago, it started at just over 40 dollars per foot in I believe 8/4 in thickness. It usually needed to be planed down after being bought. I too love dark and dense woods 🥰

Haha, love it! So the harp stick is made of (I think) poplar, but comes stained walnut or cherry if you want to match a harp. But this Harpsicle is definitely made of actual walnut, though I'm not sure if it's the heartwood or the sapwood that they use! I have another walnut harp that is gorgeously dark made by the same people, so I suppose it might be heartwood? All the wood talk is fascinating to me 😁
@Cocytus
@Cocytus 2 жыл бұрын
@@MusicalMollyKhan Quite simply, the heartwood is the deeper center of the tree and sapwood is the outer layers and gets lighter in shade as you go out to the surface. The darker it is, the more likely it is to be heartwood.
