Yep all that PDA work, yet in the end they will forget how to shoot once that PDA is gone out of their hands, also if it was me, i would pick the top 10 rifles used in the world today, from the average rifle that a person could have in a war zone, and then ask any of those going through the coarse to test if they can hit those clay pigeons at 800 meters i bet they cant, because they get trained up with the most weapons platforms the usa has which is the .338, 7.62mm and .50 cal, what about a 5.56 or even better other countries version of those weapons like a AK47 and then try to pass the test with each of those top 10 weapons platforms used around the world ? also no PDA's at all, using your skill to pick out the weather, wind and total target length areas by eye and knowing the DOP of all the rifles i just mentioned and knowing those rifle like the back of your hand, if it can shoot at 800 meters, then it can kill you its as simple as that. I bet they do not ever train with other rifles to past the test or if they do, they are not going to tell you are they ? After all the Green CAPs were used to train others in the field as take over countries and start up wars full stop.

That makes no sense. You don't shoot accurately at 800 meters without an excellent rifle. Snipers have always had specially prepared rifles provided for them for as long as the specialization existed in the armed forces. Whether we're talking about the Russians selecting the top percentage of nagants for use by snipers, or America's sniper weapon systems. You need a high quality, high power rifle to make those shots, it doesn't matter how good you are, there are some things that aren't possible without the correct tools.

Jackson Vance I agree with the others here. SF still gets familiarization with non US weapons, but there should never be a need to use a foreign weapon for a sniper engagement unless you’re doing some black stuff. And if that was the case, they would train on the system prior to the mission. Finally, they still teach the basics because they know technology can and will fail. I guarantee any SFSC grad can shoot at those ranges without the technology. But as with any force multiplier, you will have a decrease in effectiveness.

I made friends with a retired e7 green beret and said at 57 years old he moves around like a 80 year old man had 777 jumps. His joints are in bad shape and he said he's not sure he would do it again? A very nice guy, not a boaster. Very humble.

@lorenzanthony The USMC has always had the reputation for excellent snipers. In terms of competition though, the US Army has always produced some of the best snipers in the nation. Hell the US Army's record in the Annual International Sniper Competition speaks for itself and more often than not, the winners were NOT SOF.
@sigspearthumb3249

Sadly, the USMC recently killed off the Scout Sniper 0317 MOS about a year ago, and also ended the Scout Sniper Course. A VERY short-sighted decision. Fortunately, the USMC Recon community, perhaps sensing rhe writing on the wall, had instituted their own sniper course just before the Scout Sniper Course was killed off.

Talking about 400m being danger close, hell, 800m is danger close against a Marine Infantryman Rifle Expert with an M-16A2 Service Rifle running irons only. Let alone a sniper. A sniper going up against a Dragunov 800m is still danger close. That's part of the purpose for .338 Lapua, Barrett .416 and .50 BMG, is to start stretching the range out to 1,000-1,500m & up thereby making harder for an enemy combatant to match the shear stopping power at range and/or just the range alone. Come on, a good ole trusty Remington 700 with a 26" heavy barrel chambered in .308win will drop a fool at 1,000m all day long. I know, I had one and looking to put another one together soon.

Google "Special Operations Target Interdiction Course - Memorandum of Instruction" I've heard from an instructor that it's really hard to get into this course, even for personnel assigned to USASOC, so I'm guessing having the B4 sniper skill identifier would put you higher up on the list even though it's not stated among the prerequisites.

Except in this video they're relying on a PDA to enhance their accuracy to targets beyond 800 meters. And that's not why SF doesn't rely on technology. It's because the forces they teach are often not nearly as equipped as we are and can't use what we use.

Context is the problem in every situation - because we is taught no "Absolutes." Already. First is last. Hence forgotten everything somehow before - even while not attending too - such teaching. I know my memory is by - absolute only - it cannot be random ever. The language is absolute already. Hence taught the same thing - is absolute.

So you added an extra week and now you work weekends? God for bid you work a weekend! Was that supposed to be a hardship? The Marine snipers cannot pass without hitting 1,000 yard targets without a Blackberry, how will you hit your targets if your PDA battery dies or an EMP goes off? Get back to the basics? Laughable. I would like to see ARMY snipers go through the USMC course and vise versa, who does better? If ARMY wins then I give much respect, this PDA shit is stupid.

The Taliban have been doing it without NVG's for centuries, they have defeated every single foreign power that roamed the mountains of Afghanistan including the Russian Army and many of US Special Forces units. Why do you think it has taken over 10 years and over $600 billion in resources? The point is, at the end of the day, a good old fight simply comes down to the basics no matter what technology you have at your disposal. And i do love the US military above any.

@504Resident - Could you proceed to tests before accepting people? I mean by that that kind of non-related questionaries left/right/left to sit somebody down, until you get a clear feeling that he knows what he's doing. Somebody could have all of a sudden certain intentions to straighten things in his manner, without having shown psychopatics behaviors in the past or be filed somewhere. Added to that comes the fact that he may be pushed into something by WEB sources.

The military is always changing, and technology is part of it. These SF sniper students are already accomplished snipers, They are going through this course to further their sniper tactics and earn that skill identifier and possibly a sniper position in their SF company/ oda. In the military we are taught that you must be proficient in fundamentals b/c technology can always fail you, But you are the most important tool. I have no doubt they can be just as lethal without the use of the pda.

Being able to routinely hit targets out at 800yds is very very impressive/difficult. Being able to turn even the less gifted shooters into 800yd snipers is rediculous. as for the marine 1000yd shot comment to pass the school, that is absolute false. Look it up. There are even vids here on youtube that show the training for the school. There aren't targets set past 800 yds, and they are not tested for that far either. The marine corps is not the 'god of war' as so many people would believe.

There's a lot trash on this video... specifically with the comparisons of USMC SS to SFSC. First the Army uses meters while the USMC uses yards... meaning that the comparison in maximum testing ranges would look more like 880 yards to 1000 yards. Second even if they deal with shorter ranges here they are shooting smaller targets. Not saying one is better than the other, but if you just have to compare the two please try to make an accurate comparison.
