Special Forces Soldier Calls Out Fake SF At T.F Green Airport, Stolen Valor

" I am an 18 Delta who was traveling on orders (in civilian clothes!) At my connection gate in Charlotte NC, I noticed this PFC in uniform. He had his collar up, a 504th BFSB unit patch with a civilian Fox Tactical patch above it on his left sleeve. I was kind of taken back and actually wanted to find someone else who seemed to be military to confirm what I was seeing. When the flight desk announced First Class and all US military in uniform this guy was the first to get up and board. I notice 3 younger guys at the back of the line who had the "right look", I quietly approached them and asked if they were military, they said yes, Marines.
They said they noticed the guy looked out of place but were not certain because they were Marines. When we arrived in PVD, I waited for him to de plane and called him over. I showed him my CAC so he knew who I was. I confronted him about his disarrayed uniform and asked to see his CAC and asked what unit he was with, he said Fort Bragg. He said he was traveling to RI to get a new CAC.
I played dumb and asked if he just couldn't do that at Bragg, He replied that they don't do that there!!! I then asked him about the fox tactical patch above the unit patch, he said he got that for doing "special training" I replied, "so are you special forces?" he said yes.
I told him that this was his lucky day and told him I was SF, I got physical with him briefly but thankfully restrained myself and took out my phone. The video does not do it justice but i'd like to out this guy! the flight was us airways 1996 from CLT to PVD on 28 august 2015, we arrived in PVD at approx 2223hrs"

That's one of the reasons I never go to Golden Corral, Applebee's, etc. on Veterans Day for their free veteran's meal. I thank those restaurants for doing that, it's a nice gesture, but it's usually on the honor system & they don't ask for any proof of service, so the place is usually full of posers claiming military service that they never had.

This isn't stolen valor unless he is attempting to benefit from falsely claimed military service i.e. military discounts, property, money/pension, or some other benefit. As dumb and stupid as it is for people to dress like they serve when they really don't, it's not a crime. We do, after all, live in the USA and anyone can dress like anything. People can dress like the president and it's not called stolen presidency. Military servicemen hear the term 'stolen valor' and automatically assume it's for anyone dressing like they serve when they really don't. Stolen valor is a good term military/congress created to label this type of crime, but really it just applies to people trying to reap benefits that do not belong to them by pretending to be military.

About 15 yrs ago (I'm 71 now) I overheard a guy talking about how he was an an "AeroMed in the Air Force during Nam". Went up to him and played dumb saying, "Wow! that must have been awesome." Asked when he was in and where he was stationed. Turns out it was a Scott AFB the same years I was there. Asked him some more questions and then I outed him big time. Just to name 2 of his major screw-ups - Said he was with the 357th (It's the 375th Evac Sq.) Didn't know that the Nightingale was a C9 nor couldn't describe the interior of it. I sure had him squirming but the best was the way his wife was looking daggers at him. I bet he bullshitted her ever since they started dating. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall and hear their conversation when they got home.

I know people wear military gear all the time, and I don't mind that, but Jesus. The stolen valor act "makes it a crime for a person to fraudulently claim having received a valor award specified in the Act, with the intention of obtaining money, property, or other tangible benefit by convincing another that he or she received the award." So, this isn't necessarily false valor.

You cannot wear rank, by doing so, he is actually impersonating a federal employee, which is illegal under US Code. You can put a uniform on, slap on patches, go out and pretend to be GI Joe, that is protected speech, but you cannot impersonate actual military personnel with rank and branch of service or claim you are without proper credentials, and there is only one type of ID. Any real service member who was asked to show his CAC after being shown one first, would know to do so. As an Army civilian, I also have a CAC, and would spot this eyesore a mile away too.

This led to the new Stolen Valor Act of 2013 which specifically states that it is only a crime if you use medals or awards that you falsely claim to have earned in order to make money, or enrich yourself in some other way. So you can dress up as a General and march up and down the street with a chest full of medals as long as you don't try to use them to make money.

Pretty much all training beyond BCT is difficult. Ranger School and the training to get into Regiment are hard. SFAS is hard. Delta is the hardest you're gonna get, and as the guy above me said, they get a lot of guys from RGT and SF ... for obvious reasons.

I can't remember if it is E5 or E6, but by the end of your training most should be an E6. That's why the SF MOS' s are titled like weapons sergeant, medical sergeant, engineer sergeant ect. Point is, his rank is too low for what he claims to be.

Lost almost half of my family while they were deployed overseas. This is very disrespectful to the Army, Navy, Marines, and they re family/friends.
