The most appropriate story to explain power of focus, is the well known story in Mahabharat about Arjun hitting eye of clay bird on top branch of a tree. So, focus means don’t get distracted by frills, but target for bull’s eye. But, the speaker has confused it by mentioning, selfless activity, as a means to get focussed. If I want to know what God is, how could becoming selfless or doing social work help me to achieve my objective? During inception of RKM, I understand, few contemporaries wondered on Swami Vivekananda's proposal to do social work along with working for salvation, as that was not preached by Sri.Ramkrishna. But, Vivekananda justified his stand saying that if they work only for their salvation, society would look at them as parasite and hence, it is imperative to justify existence by doing social works. Hence, to succeed in academy, business or in corporate field one should be like Arjun, to target on own success only and not to get distracted by frills, like whether in the process he is becoming selfish or selfless.
