Your butternuts were not mature. They won't taste anywhere near as good as if allowed to turn tan (usually) on the vine and then mature for 2 months in storage afterwards. They are also usually almost always a deeper orange color at maturity with seeds that are fully filled out.

@NorKal5305 ай бұрын
I agree. The most important thing, from what I picked up on KZbin is that the stem should turn to a light, golden brown color before harvesting, while retaining much of the stem as possible- which the author of the video did. However, the butternut squash needs to "cure" between 5-7 days and keep in a cool dry place. This set up was really impressive and a lot of time and energy was spent on this project. It's the small things that we don't do towards the end that can possibly prevent us from enjoying the most benefit from harvesting butternut squash. Great was made in growing the bn squash. Great project overall. I hope my turn out great this year. Best of luck to everyone growing this year!

I love your videos. Do you have one showing how you prune the vines? Do you cut off all the suckers and keep a single stem? Thank you!
@Orpilorp Жыл бұрын
They are beautiful, but here in Nebraska, we would let them mature more, getting a harder shell, and a buff brown color. The flavor is more like pumpkin then. That would be interesting to try at the immature stage.

Hello! I’m curious about where you were growing them, I saw the shades and fabric on the floor, was this in a sun room or a covered porch? I’m growing 1plant indoors and was wondering where yours were. I’m also curious about what the cup of bananas are for? Your butternut squash turned out beautiful, thank you for sharing!
@kiaya00724 күн бұрын
the bananas are a potassium source. The decomposition of these produce beneficial bacteria the plants need to break down further additions to the cup. Without the bacteria to break down the food put in the cup the plants cant gain access to the nutrition you are giving them. Ripe bananas are loaded with natural sugars and minerals plants love to eat.

- You can find styrofoam boxes at fruit stores - During the growing process, you alternately fertilize vermicompost or water with fish protein - ripe bananas - into plastic cups in styrofoam
