Outstanding video. This has to be one of the best train vids I have seen on YT. The vistas/ scenery, the engineering that went into that track route and on top of that your skill as a drone pilot. Outstanding.

Oh my! You have set a new bar in railfan video excellence. How blessed those VIP’s were to see the Canyon on a gorgeous day. Your drone pilotage continues to amaze me. I presume your footage around Wishram was controlled from the other side of the Columbia. You have a great deal of confidence in your flying skills and drone battery to cross open water like that. Thanks for including Maryhill as well-another beautiful location.
@TheRailfanDan Жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot Bill! Correct I was on the other side of the river at Wishram. That isn't too terribly far of a distance but there are definitely times when I can't fly in the Gorge due to the high winds. Just happened to be lucky enough that it wasn't too severe that morning. I was glad to capture Maryhill but knew it would be a sprint to catch up to them again for some other location after that.

Dan, thank you for this exceptional video! The BNSF Officer Special train was beautiful. The scenery is exceptional. The drone footage of the train traveling along the Deschutes River Canyon over the top. I noticed that as the train crossed the Deschutes River into tunnel Number 2 and then coming out of the tunnel and crossing the river again, that the engineer slowed the train so that the passengers could take in the beauty of the surroundings. In looking at the video, I kept wondering how you were able to control the drone as it followed the train along the Canyon. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video!
@TheRailfanDan Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Thomas! I as well thought they slowed down at Tunnel 2 for the riders but later in the day I caught a freight train right near there and they were slow rolling through as well so there must have been some slow order in place. I'm glad there was because it gave more recording time!

@TheRailfanDan Жыл бұрын
@@mpaulk2023 I forgot to put that info in at tunnel 2 and I was going to. There was definitely some slow order right through there. Otherwise it's 25mph. Most of the canyon is 35mph.

i love bnsf's office car train, but i think it would be awesome if they decided to restore something unique to pull it with. what comes to mind is either a modernized fp45 or something really wild like an e9. they could do a warbonnet paint scheme with the current colors to tie into the stainless of the cars too.

Sir! you set a high bar indeed. The engine emerging from tunnel 2 and crossing the bridge is fantastic work. So many amazing shot, the long rolling shot with the camera trailing the final car is a real solid shot. And the big question, how many times did you have to relocate and relaunch drones to capture this event? just spectacular results from very good field work and prep.
