That funeral bier that the Presidential casket rests on is the same one used for all the Presidents. It is the same one used for Abraham Lincoln. Kept in a designated spot in the Capital building. It was retrieved from archives during the planning for President Kennedy's funeral and has been used and kept for all presidential funerals. Historic State Funerals are events you never forget. Something special about all of them from Kennedy until the present. Respect the Office of the President of the United States no matter who occupies it. Rest In Peace and thank you for your service, President Carter.

We didn't need the Panama Canal then and we don't need it now. Original purpose was to quickly get warships from the Atlantic to the Pacific and visa versa in time of need. Most won't fit into the canal now so it's useless for that purpose. Guess you would have rather spent trillions of our tax payer money keeping to ourselves though.
