This is folk music. You didn’t do production. Just you and your guitar should suffice. Bob Dylan was a prolific phenomenon. The vagabond from out of the Midwest with a terrible voice, a mouth harp, guitar and some genius tunes and lyrics. The folk era. Nothing was bombastic. It was honest and raw. It delivered its message through the simplistic beauty of a voice and guitar without all the bells and whistles of rock and roll. The whole folk scene from the 60’s and early 70’s is a treasure trove of great music waiting for the right time to be rediscovered . What better time than when the times are a changin’ .

@@samwaugh1464 I couldn't disagree more. But that's ok! I do love Dylan and music is so personal. I have no problem with you feeling that Dylan is in a class of his own. It's interesting to me to see how others react to music even if it's very different from my own reaction. Not to change your mind at all but Dylan did have this to say about Prine “Prine’s stuff is pure Proustian existentialism. Midwestern mindtrips to the nth degree. And he writes beautiful songs. I remember when Kris Kristofferson first brought him on the scene. All that stuff about “Sam Stone” the soldier junky daddy and “Donald and Lydia,” where people make love from ten miles away. Oh man I'm so happy to see someone react to this song specifically. Not many people do Dylan reactions and when they do its usually some of his more straightforward hits. This song is one of my favourite lyrics ever. Just beginning to end incredible. And yeah there is a similarity to rapping as he was very into the "beat poetry" that was happening in the 60's and that is clear in a lot of his speak-singing style. Oh and massive props to Leah for requesting this!
@jnagarya5192 жыл бұрын
his foremost influence was Woodie Guthrie, which is where he got "talking blues" -- not "proto-rap" and other such later labels.
@JayPhonomancer2 жыл бұрын
@@jnagarya519 I know about Woody Guthrie and talking blues and their influence on Dylan. But it could still be described as proto-rap as it is an early form of spoken lyrics in a song. I am a Gen X'er and I have loved Dylan since I was 16 (well after Dylan's peak in the 60's). I met a Boomer who walked out on a Dylan show at a small club in about 1964. Point being: Not everyone gets into Dylan...they can't get past the voice, etc. It is cool that TM "gets it" and has the depth to see the power of his lyricism. Finally, got a a great laugh at how TM was nearly taken out of his high from reading Dylan's wiki page....even the guy's wikipedia entry is deep. Dylan is a musical and songwriting legend.
