Elder Rasband, like many others descendants of pioneers has been blessed by the fortitude of those who preceded him and he feels grateful and strengthened by their sacrifice. I have enjoyed this presentation very much.

I think it must really please our ancestors to know that we sometimes remember them and what they've been through so we can have it so much better.

I really love being a part of this church! It’s worth blistered feet, starving, and freezing to death as a part of the Martin Handcart Company, it’s worth whatever trouble is here now. I believe the Lord will have a tried people. He had the ancient Israelites wander in the desert, and he had the pioneers go through heartbreak continuously. The journey to Utah was the desert for the modern Israelites.

I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true, and that this man is a true prophet seer and revelator. I'm very blessed also to have pioneer ancestors, who left homes of comfort to struggle with disease, death of loved ones, and other afflictions. They did these things because they loved, and still love our Savior Jesus Christ, and wanted to follow him.

Joseph Smith, quoting John the Revelator, indicated this gift is so important that( every “man who has the testimony of Jesus,” is a prophet, “)(for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. -Revelation 29:l0th )verse” (TPJS, p. 119) In ancient times it was thought that only a few people could be prophets. In fact, they often declared that they wanted only a certain person to be a prophet for all the people. Joseph Smith said this was a wrong concept and declared: . . . the people should (each one stand for himself, )(and depend on no man or men)( in that state of corruption) of the Jewish church-that (righteous persons could only deliver their own souls)(-applied it to the present state of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-)said if the people departed from the Lord, (they must fall-that they were depending on the Prophet)(, hence were darkened in their minds, in consequence of neglecting the duties devolving upon themselves), . . . (TPJS, pp. 237-238) And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp. And [91] Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them. And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? Would God that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them! (Num. 11:25-29)

The prophet can't be everywhere at once, so each person who is very close to Heavenly Father can have a measure of the spirit of prophecy. In Exodus 18 Jethro, Moses Father in law warned Moses, who was using his prophetic gifts to judge his people, that he (Moses), would never be able to meet the people's needs, because he would be there from morning to evening judging, counseling, and meeting with them to help them. It was then that other men were called with a measure of the gift of prophecy to help bless those who Moses didn't have time to bless. It is true that Moses, Joseph Smith, etc, were God's authorized prophets, seers, and revelators, but it's also true that other people can receive God's word to bless mankind. God's prophets do have a unique role to help God establish the ordinances and covenants, that make it possible to return to God's presence, as well as authorize the organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I hope this helps clarify some misunderstood doctrine. God bless you!
