I am the child of a disabled parent, my father used a wheelchair... when you're growing up, your parent is your parent you love them unconditionally, and never think anything of it until people start pointing it out to you. I never thought I was missing anything in particular because of my father's disability. He didn't run around with me, but we played cards, and table top games and made fun of bad movies together ... the running phase only lasts for a few months, but then you have the rest of your life to spend quality time with your kid and teach him what actually matters. Glad the comments are back!

@a00100a: Thank you for posting this. I am a disabled Mom of a active and precious 4 year old boy. He is my world. I have limitations with walking and can’t jump or run with him. But he keeps me active and on my toes. Like this young lady said being a Mom is a 24 hour job and EVERYTHING takes a back seat to it. Including a disability. My son inspires and motivates me to push past any obstacles my disability presents. From your post, I see your Dad did a great job!! I pray my little guy will have the same sentiments. God bless. ❤️

It totally depends on the disability though... If I havnt slept for 5 days and have so much vertigo and muscle numbness that i need help with everything and need to stay in my bed in a dark room for a month, almost unresponsive, I would not be able to raise a kid or give it the attention it needs. The sad truth is some people are too physically ill to have children.

Her husband getting comments that are “unfair” is a very nice way of putting it. She is lovely.

That was a very delicate way of saying it. My husband has Cerebral Palsy and while no one has ever said anything like that to me, I always worry about how we are perceived in public by those who don't know us. I always wonder if someone thinks I am "leading him on" or taking advantage of my husband in some way--they don't know that he's a lawyer, they just see someone who is visibly disabled.
@rae7864

She is not lovely for it. She is timid after years of assumtions, negativity and verbal abuse from literally anyone. Its the same for me regarding my disability. If I would show people how I actually feel when they ask me prejudice questions, a.k.a. a normal response, everyone would assume I'm the issue because people dont want to be educated or shown that they are wrong so after a while you just try to act as you are not bothered when its not the case.

My mother has cerebral palsy. She had 3 kids in the early 80s. Let's just say there's was no one like her. People kept saying how amazing my father was. I knew they meant having children with someone like her. She was thw strong one. He wasn't good enough for her. She deserves a lot of respect.

I have a mild form of CP. And I can understand how people judge you sometime and think just because you have a disability means that you can't have a child. Those of us with CP can't have children and have a normal life. Just because we have a disability the we can't do things. We just have to find ways around doing stuff and doing things different ways may not be the same as everyone else but the job gets done at the end of the day. I love your story and thank you for sharing it with us. And you have a very handsome son. Best of luck in life hugs

This really hit something inside me. My whole life, my mom has had MS (Multiple Sclerosis), I have never seen her walk on her own. I had to grow up real fast, I did all the chores by myself, I learned patience and compassion like not many other children around me. 2nd comment I’ve made watching this…my mum was born with CP. when I was little before school and it was just me an her at home I would want to play games and do things. I don’t remember ever feeling like we missed out on stuff. My mum was and is an amazing mum. But I specifically remember this, and my mum does too and we laugh about it to this day still 😂 but when I was around 4 - 7 I would say “let’s play hide n seek mum” and I would throw a blanket over her in her chair and pretend I didn’t know where she was and look for her around the house. Lots of hours of fun for me, lots of hours of my mum thinking I was an insane child with a big imagination…which I was ahahahah.

Her smile warms my heart. I hope no one ever tries to dull that shine and make her feel like she needs to hide her pain. Thank you for sharing yourself with us, Elcana.

Why would anyone ask how she got pregnant?! What the heck. That is so rude even if it were to be a different process for whatever reason. And the fact that people would assume she doesn’t have agency to decide to be a mother and want to do it is also very upsetting. Regardless, I’m glad she has the help she needs to take care of him. I wish more people did as well. All parents need help. Raising children is mentally and physically demanding.

This lady is such a light, I love her positivity even through the things she can't do. As someone with CP myself, these videos of people with my disability make me know I'm not alone, as I felt alone with my disability for years, and still do sometimes, and people see it as strange that I have CP since I can walk and stuff (as most people with CP cannot walk/have difficulty) but I love this video so much!!

Elcana is AMAZING. If her son grows up to be half as vibrant, loving, and determined as her; we will all be BLESSED to have him in this world. Her physical limitations will never affect how well she will be able to provide for her son emotionally or raise him as a self-sufficient individual. Beautiful family! So happy she found motherhood despite the odds!

She is a perfectly mentally capable, and I can confidently say VERY intelligent woman. She seems to be a great mom, she's nurturing and she always puts her baby boy first. She tries her hardest to be a good mom, which is really all anyone can ask of any mom!! People who wanna judge her need to step off!! Also, she's super pretty!! Like damn girl! That gorgeous hair, her lovely smile, her defined cheekbones, she's just so lovely!

Hi! I am a 44-year-old woman with cerebral palsy who has a 14 year old beautiful young lady. I just started watching this video and I realize that we seem to have the same degree of ability. I wanted to let you know that you are doing a wonderful job. Your son will only benefit from your good mothering skills. Don’t give up and whenever you get frustrated, just remember to think outside of the box! Thank you for sharing your story with the world. I live with my partner too and he is able-bodied. So it’s nice to know that someone else out there in the world has a similar story to mine. Maybe we can converse or get together sometime. I would love that. :-)

I really respect the grandmother for appreciating her current country for being so good to people with disabilities and all people in general. Sure, there’s still discrimination but what a great country we Americans live in. A lot of people take for granted that they live in the most diversely cultured, greatest country on earth. I believe that with all my being. It makes me feel so proud to see my country be a help to future citizens who are in need.

Chill out bro, you know they would have gotten the same treatment if they went pretty much anywhere else that had a better economy, better infrastructure and high literacy rates... which Haiti also would have had if wasn’t for America screwing them over economically since kingdom come. Don’t sully the comments with your nationalism, you did hear the bit about how she talked about being bullied right?

Useful Revolution Look, the people in Haiti saw her as nothing but a burden and would’ve been happy to see her dead. There’s nowhere you can go where someone won’t discriminate against you. You’re the perfect example. I didn’t go down in the comments to argue. If you’re an American, you need to stop acting like America as a whole is some high power that is trying to destroy all that oppose us. America is supposed to be the land of freedom and opportunity for its citizens and that’s what it is. If you aren’t an American, then get over it and leave people alone.
