Just found your channel today. Thank you! Our school system has told us we do not have the option of level inclusion aside from full inclusion. There’s so many other issues. Although I’m exhausted from years of advocating medically, there’s no choice but to battle our system. Our district says our son tested out of his IEP and therefore removed it. Motivation states that ieps are not strictly testing based but also medical in situations like those with mitochondrial disease. Now we have to fight to try and get an iep back AND fight to have the iep mean anything as far as assistance goes. He used to thrive in school but is plummeting more and more both educationally and emotionally. Not sure what to do so I’m just pushing everywhere I can 🥴💜 BTW, when testing him to see if he still qualified for iep, the tested him on words such as “the, that, and.” He was in middle of third grade and did infact spell those words correctly. He was essentially tested at a 1st grade level. No wonder he passed since our previous school in another state had a fantastic special Ed team and inclusion level.

Could you touch base on coteaching in the inclusive classroom. The suggestion of pull out and push in, when a classroom is chaotic.

Most of the disadvantages of an inclusive setting are attributable to poor teachers and staff that will not make the effort. You should make your company an NGO, you will certainly be amazed how much support you will receive from all us parents that are just sick and tired of this terrible school system. Many advocates in our Chicago area have built relations with the school and instructors and are absolute garbage when it comes to standing up to support us in attaining what’s best for our children with special needs. I say we create a parents online website that names specific schools, teachers, advocates, therapists, coordinators and how they are helping or hindering our children. Making some this information public will be an excellent start to encouraging great teachers/ therapists and warning of incompetent ones.

Thank you for your comment. This is exactly what my daughter is telling me. She’s trying her best to do her work on her own while teachers are laughing in the hallways with students, cursing, and not taking their profession seriously.

Can they let your child be in a mainstream classroom with special education services
@Cartergames64
@Cartergames64 2 жыл бұрын
@@tiffanyrichardson6698 I requested a new iep. It’s actually today. But his teacher agreed he needs a smaller setting, with more supervision and maybe few hours a day he can visit kindergarten class, so he can be around his peers. So I’m hoping we can find a better environment for him. He hasn’t been doing well in this setting.

@@Cartergames64 see if you can slowly transition him to the gen ed classroom. It will take time, but all good things do. Maybe he needs the smaller class right now, but in 6months or a year, he won't.

I am going through this right now. My son is 5 and I initially thought the self contained classroom setting would be a good setting however it is not. I’ve called an IEP and I pray it goes well and that he is able to go back into an inclusion classroom. He did really well in pre k ( which was a mainstream classroom).

I want a law to be created and passed that explicitly states and rules that if a youngster used to disrupt classes but no longer does so, that even if he/she has all regular mainstream subject classes and a regular mainstream homeroom class, that it is illegal for the youngster’s regular mainstream homeroom teacher to refuse to give permission for him/her to go on a regular mainstream school club trip and that it is illegal for the youngster’s regular mainstream homeroom teacher to tell him/her to get the permission from a special education teacher. This is no way to reward a youngster for behaving him/herself and it causes the youngster irreversible psychological damage. Furthermore, whoever the youngster is made it clear that he/she turned over a new leaf, that he/she wants to be in the regular mainstream only, that he/she does not want anything to do with special education or any other stigmas whatsoever, and that he/she wants to be treated exactly like everybody else! This is not too much for the youngster to ask for! Please give feedback and please reply.

Today at our ARD meeting, my 7yr old as of next school yr is to be in self contained sped class. They don’t offer it at our campus. She tried inclusion this yr, and behaviorally she just can’t do it. She is a runner, so much so they had to install alarms on doors so they knew when she is trying to leave the school. Problem with moving is trying to find a program that can handle her. But in trying to google, I’m not finding specific answers on if AE (adaptive education) is the same as self contained. Is it different? Or are different campus’s just using different names. I’m not upset the being pulled from inclusion, I know this is best from her, and said it from the beginning. But if nobody can clarify on what is what I don’t even know what to ask for when trying to find a school to transfer to.

This information is beneficial, but not factual for all states. In Virginia -- especially secondary, there are no alternate state assessments. Every student must take the same state assessment (ESOL exception - plain English is offered) and in the self-contained setting, end of course asseesment classes must follow the same curriculum as the collaborative or general education setting. I do know that states are different and not as equal with special education students.

I literally had no idea there was even a thing as self contained class. . I was brought to my counselors office 4 month into freshman year and Given the option of that or a behavior school. The teachers were cool but honestly the dudes were all fighters and drug users. Literally are only field trip was to a prison. I couldn’t even socialize with anyone your pretty much just suck in the room so that def sucked and sent home early. I didn’t even learn anything past 8th grade level cuz you put a bunch of asshole in one room nothing gets done. Yes I was a asshole then but I’ve changed and I know some guys that hanged for the better and are doing ok but some not so much. I’m just saying they say it’s for “special “ people but it’s really for “socially disturbed “ is what it says on your record
