In this video I outline four key differences between the Specialized Diverge Sport Carbon and Comp Carbon. I cover frame material, seatpost, the future shock, and the SWAT system. Is $900 for the Diverge Comp Carbon worth it?

Huh, I'm pretty sure a Diverge was ridden across the finish line at Unbound. Oh and another Diverge in second place. Kate has had amazing results on gravel with her Diverge. Is it for everyone, no. No bike perfect for everyone. What the Diverge does is finds a great balance between road and gravel. Not easy to do.

Hi, Thank you. It's very useful. I'm considering the base carbon model. is it low spec'd ? or Can the groupset and others be upgraded later. Or is it worth waiting and buy the sports model.
@GreatEgretAdventure
@GreatEgretAdventure 3 жыл бұрын
Both are great bikes. The Base has a SRAM Apex 1 group set. Not necessarily low spec’d when compared to the GRX of the Sport. Just different. the Base is a 1x11 and the Sport is a 2x11. If you like SRAM more than Shimano AND you want a 1x save some money and go with the base. You can swap out the groupo on the base, but to upgrade, you’d be paying at least the same, if not more than it would be buying the Sport. In the end, choosing between these two amazing bikes is wonderful problem to have. What it comes down to is preference and budget.

On pavement, I feel the Sport with the Future Shock 1.5 is more than sufficient. Plus you can put your savings towards carbon rims if you want them.

Great questions! I LOVE the bike - frame and drivetrain have been perfect for me. BUT, did upgrade the seatpost to the Roval Terra (which I’m delighted with) and changed the stem for greater stack height. My only disenchantment is there’s no fork bolt option for a permanent dynamo hub powered light (I liked my Busch and Mueller IQ-X but had to retire it for now). -Kate

@@GreatEgretAdventure The problem I'm having now is finding a bike store that has one in my size. I really don't want to spend the extra money on the next model if I don't have to.

Kate was really lucky in that she jumped at the chance to buy the Comp. when it didn’t work for her, she took advantage of our LBS’s generous 30-day return policy. $900 more is a lot of money to spend on for the comp and I’d rather put that money towards a good set of carbon rims. Though, the Roval Terra is stock on the Comp and well worth the $250 you’d spend buying a bike without it. Especially if you ride on rough terrain. I’ve been trying to find frames in my size for a Salsa Fargo and a Surly ECR. It’s really tough right now. I fall right in the middle of sizes on most bike frame and tend to buy a size down rather than a size up. If the stack and reach is close to what you currently ride and you’re handy swapping out components, you can set nearly any bike up to fit. Within size reason, of course. Good luck! -Joe

I’ve been testing this bike (Sport version) and I’m just not sold on Future Slop. I have messed with different springs and such and it just doesn’t feel great to me, and has the added negative of being proprietary, also fairly expensive to replace ($400 for modern versions, $200 for 1.5 if you can find it). Also, replacements might be hard to come across in the future as I’m sure they will try to justify different measurements with Future Slop 4.0 or whatever.
@GreatEgretAdventure

Where are you getting the replacement cost amounts? When video was made in 2021, Specialized told me the 2.0 replacement was $515 and the 1.5 was $250.

I really feel this video is misses some important points. First, the bikes are more different than they are similar. In regard to the frame, whether or not a rider feels a difference is more a function of the type of riding they are doing, then what bike she has been riding in the past. I think you really undersold the SWAT box in regard to its usefulness on longer rides. On my last ride, I packed a spare tube, 2 CO2 cartridges and a baselayer to change into and I've never had trouble with these items getting caught in the cables because I use a bag for the smaller items. For someone like me who wants to avoid a pack, this feature is really useful. Agreed, the seatpost is a huge selling point. I also think you do the Future Shock a disservice. The dampening effect on all-day gravel rides is a game-changer and can say I have 20 years of non-damped gravel bikes to compare it to. On road adjustability, I use it all the time. Groupset? The Comp comes with Shimano GRX 810 across the board, which is an upgrade from the GRX 600 that comes stock on the Sport. The difference is particularly noticeable in terms of the braking. So, to sum up: higher quality frame, noticeably better dampening on both ends, a groupset upgrade, and internal storage that is both useful and practical. The Sport is Sow's ear dressed up as a silk purse. If you are buying a gravel bike to ride gravel, spend the cash. It is well worth it. If you are looking for an all-rounder, the Sport might be a better choice.

Why is there no comp carbon 1x?
@GreatEgretAdventure
@GreatEgretAdventure 3 жыл бұрын
It would be nice if there was, wouldn’t it? Brands like Specialized have agreements with component companies like Shimano to spec out their bikes. This helps keep costs down for Specialized. Specialized also does a ton of market research for each model price point. They decided that more riders will want the GRX 810 2x than the 1x. They also probably decided on the Comp Carbon that having both GRX 810 2x and 1x or included a SRAM Apex 1x like they do on the base carbon would be cost prohibitive. It also pushes buyers to the Expert Carbon if they want the GRX 810 1x.
