Specialized Jett 20" Review

my 7 y/o daughter got a jett 20.. changed the tires and it was a game changer for the trails.. light bike to carry and throw around

What size/type tire did you put on? This bike checks a lot of boxes and if it could handle trails well with bigger/knobbier tires I'd be sold. Thanks!

@@BenjaminHughes-hk8pm it was from a local bike shop, generic tire that was knobby.. the stock tire is good for neighborhood cruise

Agree with him about overall quality. I bought the 24” version for grandson. Everything lived up to expectation except seat very uncomfortable and the worst part is the 8 speed trigger shifters. The high speed shifter is basically hidden under the grip and very difficult to locate with the thumb. For such a great bike it is a serious ergonomic shortcoming.

i dig that bike. the frame is super nice looking. getting way into kids bikes now that my daughter is riding and specialized really seems to be kicking ass for the little riders.

The last revamp was Specialized keeping up to all the super rad kids bike companies out there. They did a fantastic job. It’s a good time to be a kid

Would you go for the Jett 20 or the Prevelo Alpha 3? Mostly road/bike paths with occasional single track and easy gravel riding.

Debating between this and the Trek PreCaliber 20. My son has the Trek PreCaliber 16 now. We are a Trek family, but this sure is a good looking bike! He turns 7 in January, so he’s about to outgrow the 16. Thoughts on gears? Local bike shop said to wait until 24” to go with gears…

I switched my 7yo nephew to gears, and it did not go over well. He doesn't understand how they work. He has a pretty good grip strength (can do monkey bars and pull ups), but he has a hard time working the shifters.

@thebikedads how singletrack capable would you say this bike is? Looking for a more trail friendly 20 in bike to replace a BMX style Raleigh with slick/ street tires.

How wide are the bars? How narrow can I cut them and still have room for the control clamps? Is there clearance for 2.25" Rocket Ron's? Would an XCM or other fork work with the geometry?

580mm width with room to bring the controls in. The official word is to not put a suspension fork on it. I’m sure there would be room as there are some large 2.0 tires in it now. But haven’t tried a different set of tires but those Rocket Rons are huge volume like the crown gems

Both great bikes. Good angles, and ergonomics. Where will you be mostly riding the bike? Pavement only, or a combo of dirt and pavement?

Nice bikes and I almost picked one up. However, when I realized that the 'blaze' orange color is anything but orange, I had to pass. Not sure why Specialized chose Salmon / Peach for a bike color and called it Blaze. Disappointed. We picked up a Cleary Owl 3-speed instead.
