Smart move on the part of Spesh to include a full maintenance kit with them. The price tag is steep, but you're ready to roll and repair anything that happens during a race season. I'd be interested to compare lateral stiffness and ride qualities of these (20 spoke carbon) vs a 32 spoke Berd build, which is probably the closest weight comparison.

I don’t have any personal long term experience with the berd. But I do feel like every time I’ve ridden them in the parking lot they definitely feel springy and a little flexible. Not in a bad way tho. I bet they are extremely comfortable.

@bicyclestation compared to steel spokes, they're definitely more flexible in all directions. Whether that's good or bad is up to the rider, but they compromise stiffness for weight. The next Berd set I lace will be 32 spokes to try and reign in the lateral flex a bit. Interested in whether Spesh's 20 carbon spokes flex more or less than their last gen! Sort of related, but Berd has a thicker Polylight X spoke that they use on their in-house downhill wheels. They don't sell them separately yet but I'd love to get my hands on some to compare their behavior to the standard Polylights.

I raced the new rovals 100 miles at Mohican 4 days ago. They are as stiff as the steel spoke control sls. They might not be scientifically as stiff but I didn’t notice a difference. I did notice how just incredible the spin up felt. I could tell that they were lighter.

@bicyclestation the spin-up is real! Light wheels on a MTB feel great. I think they help the suspension come alive too.

They should have not fully drilled the outer rim so you dont need rim tape. I KNOW I KNOW they are harder to build. But it would be the ultimate for tubeless reliability and weight savings.

@@bicyclestation they made a mistake not going to 33mm internal width like new bike-ahead-composites BITURBO RSX.. 29mm is to narrow for modern wide XC tires at extremely low pressures in my experience- tire will "squize off the rim" or lose pressures in agressive cornering..

What pressure are you running? Most brands Xc tires still measure 2.35 with calipers. Maxxis designed WT around 25-30mm rims

Specialized keeps missing the boat with these types of products. Just like the S-Works special edition new SRAM Red bikes. Make these wheels $5000 instead of $3300. Make the bike $20,000 instead of $15,500. The folks that are buying these things have more money than sense.

lmao. Self employed college drop out here. With all the free time I have letting my business run itself, I thought I'd login and respond to this stupid comment while sipping coffee in bed. I'm going riding in a few, while most people are rushing to go to work. I purchased (2) sets of these wheels. Only 100 made, laser team signatures, and the lightest in the world. My Reynolds wheels (on my $12K bike what a dummy) are heavier and cost $2,399? So, for a few bucks more these are almost 1 lbs lighter. I weighed them on arrival to confirm it. Nevermind these sold out in a couple days... Your comment insults the person who created this video also. I guess we should go get more "sense". I'l work on that, thanks for the tip - genius
