Buying a set of integrated aero bar and stem from DiyCarbon was a huge mistake. First off the bars I received did not match what the site photos looked like. That was okay because they seemed fine. However, the advertised reach was 77mm and I made the mistake of building this bike up including routing new hydraulic brake lines, without measuring it. After the first ride it didn’t feel right and I found the reach was actually 122mm. That’s an entire hand size too long! I reached out to Ty, the Owner, with photos and his response was that the stem size was correct, but he made no mention of the reach. It seemed like he didn’t actually understand what reach is. I own eight bikes, 4 of those are drop bar bikes and I’ve been riding and racing for over 30 years, I kind of know a little bit about bike sizing a geometry. I responded a second time with photos using a digital caliper and I still have not heard anything from him. I think I’ve been ghosted and I’m out about $200. So my recommendation is do not order from this company.

What I've figured is that a bike is actually just the frame alone, and then parts are mounted to it. Just a few changes can make a completely different experience, and then we're all of a sudden into custom, except most people wouldn't consider it as such. They see a frame with a name on it, and thus, that's what bike it is. Well, I'd say strip it down to frame only, and that's what bike it is. Add parts again and then it is this, that or what ever bike + these are the parts I choose to use with this bike. If I had a Honda motorcycle, at least I know I could go to a Honda dealer and get any original part for that particular bike, if they of course are not discontinued. When will the bike industry follow... Secondary options are good to have, it's just with a bicycle most of these are primary options - There *_is_* a difference.

We cut cost several ways and none of them are quality related... first, we cut cost by eliminating middle man mark ups. We are a smaller operation and we don't pay the 70% mark ups for the brand, the big websites, or bike shops. Secondly we ship directly from the factory to the consumer. This cuts out significant cost from the price both on shipping and storing and eliminates the risk involved with stocking and not selling things or losing profit which raises prices overall. Lastly, these are assembled directly at the factory, so they are still hand built, but the labor is more affordable. All of this together lowers the price while we still use high quality mold, carbons, and layup.

I have two emtb's very rarely are both in good enough shape so I can bring a friend and just go on a day trip in the Mountain with just a pocket tool ..i feel like many parts are made to break so you will continuously upgrade your bikes until the frame is outdated and then it's finally good... but I guess if I just had a really good wheel set i could just switch but no They will change up the width 110 148 boost is only now it's really no way to keep up

Weight makes a huge difference especially with unsprung weight. Acceleration, climbing and maintaining speed. You are talking about a downhill racer. Totally different category. If you are being carried up the mountain my any other means than your own leg than yes, more weight to carry momentum down could have some benefits but if you are on any other type of trail, carbon wins.
@blakehanson10114 жыл бұрын
This is super biased. This company is just trying to sell there products. You can't say carbon rims are better because there wide, you can get a alloy wheel of the same width. You just used a cheap non boost one as your example. Also, you say carbon rims never need to be trued? But alloy does? That's because carbon rims don't bend, they snap. It takes a bit more to damage a carbon rim than alloy, ya. But when a carbon rim is damaged, it's done for. There's no fixing it, you have to go spend tons of money on a new one
@DIYCarbonBikes4 жыл бұрын
Blake, I appreciate you response, but I would like to respond. YES it is true you can get a wide rim aluminum but how sluggish is that rim going to be? Alu wide rims are very heavy. You will not end up with a 1700g wheelset with a wide alu wheelset like you can with carbon. I’m not saying carbon rims never need to be trued, but it is a matter of fact that they need to be trued less. They are stiffer it a a matter of fact. No your question of “snapping”... we have been selling carbon wheels for 10 years and we have never seen one “snap”. We have seen small cracks develop on a SMALL minority of rims we offer a warranty so no you would not have spend a crazy amount of money to replace. And worst case and you were 5 years out of warranty a replacement rim is under $200 :)... I guarantee you in the worst case that these cracked within warranty it would be free, beyond this it would be the cost of a couple trues that you would have already saved on by them being low maintenance...
@blakehanson10114 жыл бұрын
If you took my comment as a hate comment, it's not. The video is good, don't get me wrong, but to me there was a lot of signs that you guys are just trying to advertise your company, not tell the differences between the to wheels. There was one thing that was slightly annoying tho, and that was the fact that many of the reasons you stated why carbon rims are better were just that the parts were higher quality. Like you said carbon rims are better because the hubs have better engagement. That's because they are higher quality, not because the rims are carbon. Thank you for responding to my comment, happy to see that you guys care about your viewers input.
@DIYCarbonBikes4 жыл бұрын
Blake Hanson that’s a good point, I might rename the video. We are not trying to compare alu to carbon as much as we are trying to compare stock alu wheels that come on bikes stock that people buy from a bike shops. In those situations wheels are the best upgrade, and I would argue, for the money, it’s worth going to carbon, especially at our prices! :)
