Just bought this bike and did a big day in the hills on it yesterday. Wow, was so surprised just how good it is. Rides like a bike about double the price. Absolutely love it! I found the factory fitted brakes felt just fine, even when doing steep technical descents. Agree it is heavy and already ordered some lighter Maxxis which I will go tubeless with. It still climbs well though, in spite of the weight.

Loved how you brought in the comparison with your 2014. I have a 2010 Comp myself and love the bike but I don't know how much more life she's got left in her. I love the "slack" riding feel of my 2010 although it sounds like most modern trail bikes are even more slack. I'd probably opt for the Comp version (even though its an extra $900 or so) to get the better brakes and a few other upgraded components. All this being said can you (or anyone really) comment on another brand/bike that would feel the same as this but might come in at a better price point? It took me a full day of trying out bikes at the bike show in Toronto back in 2011 to settle on my 2010 Stumpy Comp but as soon as I rode it (just around their little test loop that they had setup) I knew immediately that I loved the geometry. Things being what they are today I won't be able to have that kind of time/opportunity to try so many bikes out - especially back to back like that so really hoping to get some opinions. Preference would be 27.5 but I guess everything these days is 29. I'm 6'1 about 210lbs. Have a great riding season folks and stay safe!

A few things...I have the same bike in size (S5) what’s yours? The front tire says 2.3 but did you notice how big it is? It bigger than a 2.6! I measured it. I replaced the rear Purgatory with a 2.6 Butcher. The brakes didn’t work great until I put about 50 miles on the bike and now they are excellent! The bikes geometry is nearly perfect...the climbing and the downhill is just amazing!

Hey DUNE YXZ. The stock tires were too aggressive for me. I’m in Texas a we have a lot of, flatter, fast single track (plenty of rocks though). That said I wanted lower rolling resistance and I changed to Maxxis with a IKON 2.35 rear and a REKON 2.4 in the front. I adjusted the amount of sealant at the same time, but the operation reduced my weight by .7 lbs! That’s a legit weight reduction for a tire swap if you ask me. LOTS of tread on those stock tires.

I would like to add some review opinion for this bike. I rode my friends stumpjumper alloy 2021 at big white bike park this weekend. Brakes were replaced by SRAM guide t’s (performed great) fork is a great beginner fork and setp up by recommendation sticker on fork itself. Shock was decent but could be upgraded upgraded as rider skill progresses along with fork. Frame is really nice and burly, itse heavier bike than my 2021 remedy 8. The derailer had issue where it would drop the chain from smallest cog when sending the bike off drops, this can be solved with derailer upgrade to nx and gx. Overall its a really good beginner bike with awesome frame for upgrades. Its burly, its planted and it has great upgrade possibilities.

Just depends. If you want to get on the trials immediately - as cheaply as possible - and upgrade over time. This is a good option. You could always go a trim level up to get some of these upgrades for a few hundred, or do frame up build. Just depends on timing. In the long-run this is a bit more expensive.

Really good video! Quick question re AB Oval Chainring on your build - is it 32t you have it mounted? Asking as when you go to the link provided, it goes to 30t. Want to make sure that when I will get 32t, it will not be too long for Stumpy frame (2022 Alloy base, which is same as yours). Specialized is saying that 34t is the max you can fit, but that is for round not oval. AB 32t oval is 143mm tip to tip of tooth and have to say that is most likely the sweet spot, as 30t would be little to little. Many thanks in advance! Kris

Great content. I agree the weight is not good. Seems like the newer bikes get heavier. I’m in the process of buying a used 2020 stumpy alloy 27.5 base model with some nice upgrades already. Like magura Mt 7 brakes new rotors and a dropper post and xt derailleur and shifter. I know the stock SRAM SX group set sucks. I had it on my ebike and derailleur and shifter blew apart. But anyway I know I’m going to have to replace the shock it comes with cheap xfusion and the fork is a rockshox recon rl which I know will be bad. So right off the bat going to cost me over 700 bux just to make the bike rideable. Lucky I’m getting the bike cheap enough but still for a bike that cost new not my price over 2 grand and yours over 3 grand these bikes should come with better components. Hi, Great video again but I was wondering what tools you used to remove the stock Bottom Bracket as I'm having difficulties removing mine, Thanks
@TXMTBN4 жыл бұрын
Great question, it’s a little tricky as you need a specialized tool. Once you have the tool it’s a snap! I added the tool you need to the description. It’s a cheap buy on Amazon. Basically you remove the hex screw and screw the tool into the threaded crank and it pushes against the bottom bracket which slides the cranks off.

Hello, I bought this bike. My question is with the X-Fusion 02 Pro R rear shock. My issue is in the locked position, the bike doesn't seem to shift, it seems to have the same closed or open travel. I haven't ridden it much so I'm curious if I should examine it or if that's normal. Cheers
@TXMTBN3 жыл бұрын
Would love others to comment as well, but mine has a more subtle difference between “trail” and “lockout” then you might expect. It’s somewhat stiffer to me in lock out, but NOT what you might expect based on what it is called. If you’ve been on a higher-end shock you will probably be disappointed in the stiffness of the lockout position. I couldn’t access the manual on the Xfusion website - not sure if others have had any luck with that (its a google doc). Curious what size yours is, how much you weigh and how much pressure you have in the shock.

@@TXMTBN Got a call last week from the shop where I ordered the bike. After assembly and a test ride they saw that the rear shock was not working properly. They have sent it to the regional X-Fusion representative for repair/replacement. Should take around 3 weeks to get it back. Pretty bummed out but happy that the shop caught the problem and is taking care of it before shipping to me. After searching online there are numerous people compaining about this shock. Apparently it is just hot garbage: Lock out does not do anything and multiple reliability issues. Some within less than 100km. The website and documentation also do not inspire much confidence. Pretty sketchy. I know that the bike was built to a price point but still... Surprised that specialized would select such a component. Kind of regretting not going for the 2021 Giant Trance 3 tbh.

Bummer on the delay! It does speak well of your local bike shop that they caught it, you have to feel good about that. It’s definitely seems like something Specialized could have taken more care specing on this bike - even at the price point.

@@TXMTBN In reviewed in many places, asking questions on forums and social networks. I found that for some it is not a real lockout, what it does the X-Fusion 02 Pro R is slowing down the suspension and help to climb. It does not block at all. What you think?
@TXMTBN3 жыл бұрын
That’s what it feels like to me! And they should probably call it something else like “firm” vs “lockout” to avoid confusion and missed expectations. I cover some of that in my 1 month review video. I’d be inclined to do the rear shock first to get more adjustability and something that if firmer for climbing. Hey Again, could you please share why are you mixing 4pistons-2 pistons? Thanks in advance, the brakes are next on my list of upgrades
@TXMTBN3 жыл бұрын
Hey Pedro! It gives me more braking power in front. Some might say overkill since there is already a larger rotor in front (203mm vs 180mm in the rear), but I like the way it feels. Depends on your personal preference, riding conditions and weight preferences (4 piston slightly heavier). Some manufacturers like Magura sell 4 piston front and 2 piston rear sets. Like a lot of this stuff it’s functional, but also comes down to a lot of personal preference and your riding conditions. I’ll cover some of what to expect on your install in my upcoming top three upgrades video.

Just curious if the amount of money put into this would it make sense to try and find an Alloy Comp? Thanks

Hey Bobby! If your long-term plan includes replacing the suspension and you have the budget, I’d definitely go for the Comp. if you like to tinker and upgrading over time is part of the enjoyment for you, then the base model could work. You also get the exact parts you want if you pick and update I’ve time. When it comes to resale value you will definitely get more for the higher end spec bike. Buyers are aren’t always willing to pay more than original retail (or market) even if you’ve made upgrades. If your keeping the bike for a long time and enjoy working on it, the economics/resale doesn’t matter as much. Hope that helps! Would love to hear what you decide.

I kept them, figured I’d run until I get some wear on them and see how it goes. I do find that the tend to squeal with any moisture. Don’t recall ever having that issue much with higher end rotors from Shimano or SRAM with small amounts of moisture.

Hi I was just wondering if you have had any issues with thr forks. Mine have gone back for warranty and are being replaced, it was knocking in the stanchions but it's on back order until September. What is the spec of your forks, is it a 140mm with 44mm offset? Thanks

Is it a comfortable bike? And do you like the bike now after the upgrades that you did?
@TXMTBN3 жыл бұрын
I would say very “comfortable” in terms of stock cockpit, geometry and in general. Might depend on what your coming from and other things, but I’m very comfortable on the bike, just trying to get that weight down some.

I looked through the small parts listed in the manuals and it doesn’t mention this part. I don’t think you will be alone in this, I think it’s going to happen to a lot of us!
@Hesster_dj3 жыл бұрын
simple, contact RockShox... call them up they'll send you a new one, or go to your specialized dealer, and they can also order one. Just because parts are not listed in the bike manual, does not mean they can't be found. They're simply not in the manual because well, Rockshox is a separate company and Specialized just sources their parts for their bikes. So the specialized dealer can definitely warranty this or you can talk to Rockshox yourself. Being in the industry, its annoying that companies cheap out on these things, they definitely regret it once they realize it failed or they have to deal with tons of warranty claims even for a tiny cap.

Hey, nice video. What I don't understand is that you've got a low spec bike and immediately change components worth a few hundret bucks. Wouldn't it be better to buy a bike that fits all needs? I've just bought a "CUBE STEREO 150 C:62 Race - 29" Carbon Mountainbike - 2021 - olive/grey" for my son and this bike works out of the box - no need to swap parts... I know that Stumpjumpers are expensive and even the comp alloy does only have a NX group though. Regards, Andi
@TXMTBN3 жыл бұрын
Hey Andi, thanks for stopping by. I think if you plan to go after updating the suspension buying the lower spec bike and updating doesn’t make as much sense. If you want to swap to your brakes and drivetrain of choice makes more sense. Availability also play a factor right now too with the supply chain the way it is. Some are buying into a more modern frame geometry, but limited by budget and want to upgrade over time, do it themselves and get exactly the components they want. CUBE wasn’t on my radar, cool looking bike. What does it cost and what’s the weight of the 150?

BTW: I have an old Trek Remedy 17.5" (M) from 2010. A week ago I changed the front triangle to a size 19.5" and together with a CaneCreek angleset -1.5° it now has a modern geometry like the size "M" nowadays (headangle 66.5°, reach 43.7cm). I've upgraded to 1x12 a while ago and Magura brakes. This makes a modern bike on old 26" wheels ;-) I love bringing old stuff new life

@@gerrylara4783 I’m on a S3 and my seat is slid all the way back. I usually buy on the smaller side and pass down to my sons or wife. If I wasn’t doing that I’d probably go for the S4. I’m the same height and weight as you, well close enough on the weight ; ) All that said, depends on other body dimensions and best to try both in ideal conditions.
