Just a quick edit: Some in Europe have seen Kromsa reach just under 4 inches. Aves Creek is an unknown of size so far. Will keep updated when I know for sure.
This is a look at one of the hobby's favorite and well known rainbowfish. But is it as well understood as we think it is?
I go over various strains of Boesemani that are obtainable in the hobby such as the commercial Ayamaru form as well as its tributaries such as Kromsa and Aves Creek. I also clarify the verbiage surrounding the Aytinjo location and the mistake Heiko Bleher made when documenting Lake Uter. I touch on the newly discovered Kali Fitri fish that Hans Evers found as well as some of the relatives of the Boesemani. These fish include other rainbow fish from the Bird's Head peninsula such as Melanotaenia Fasinensis and Melanotaenia Ajamaruensis.
There are even contradictions in regards to the care and water parameters needed to sustain this fish. But I guarantee you there is really only one thing that you really need to keep this fish and it shouldn't come as a surprise.
I tried to keep the video informative, yet entertaining. The addition of memes were fun for me but I also withheld some of them and also forgot to add a couple things. Editing in the twilight hours of the night does something to the brain lol..

I have 8 or 9 in the 240 gallon/920 liters. The first were typical LFS stock...a little pale. I later bought some with a stronger yellow,but still a pale blue. The last two I bought are starting to show a stronger color of them all. With a deep blue breastplate that I don't see on the others. The largest Boesy is near 5" with a deep and wide body..the dominant Rainbow in the tank even though a hybrid Trifasciatus is larger,its second in line.

@@HoonAquatics That almost black on the one Uter us wild! Seen the Kromsa that Gary had in AquaBid sereral years ago. My Antinjo were cool to watch growing out. Thought the lighter whitish stripes on with the blue was really cool. Like I said I truly don't know where I will ever put more tanks but like any hobby it gives us things to look forward to. Having recently getting back to collecting rainbows again after figuring out I had the Camallanus things are soooo much better. Funny thing though I seem to have lost all my easy low light plants back when I was treating tanks. How do you lose frogbit,java moss and java fern and water sprite too! I do have a question thought. Do you ever see rainbows have strange things going on with their lips sometimes? I have never seen males lock lips but every now and then their lips get a little skinned up. Never anything major. Some almost seem to have developed a bit of scar tissue? Thanks.
@HoonAquatics
@HoonAquatics 3 жыл бұрын
@@robertbaker3174 yes thats a common question and occurrence for rainbows to get white lips. Sometimes its just ramming into the tank while sparring or when spooked. I never really worry about it unless some sort of infection occurs afterward. Nothing to really worry about!

@@HoonAquatics Thanks. Never asked anyone since I first started keeping them. Never had so many before either! Scary after dealing with Camallanus. I thought I had TB in some tanks. I watched the mouths fall apart on some fish and happened to see an article on Loaches on Line about symptoms of the worms and was consistent with what I saw. No probs since but man do I get antsy when I see anything! Will continue to enjoy your updates and such. While I am thinking rainbows still I thought about when I had Running Creek Tri's. They were huge and very yellow! Hope things keep getting better and find some more some day. Good to see all the other hobbyist out there that appreciate them. Only thing better would be going there and collecting them and seeing where they live. Nature is awesome!

I have a baby boesemani ( probably a male cause he keeps courting the female guppies lol plus he’s very colorful despite being still super young ) a male ( dull in colori but defiantly male in behavior ) m. Australis and the only female rainbow is a m. Trifasciata , so basically I habe 3 rainbows of 3 different species , 2 boys and a girl . My question is , do you think they suffer not being in bigger group ? I’ve noticed the m. Australis and the m. Trifasciata stays together while the baby boesmani prefers the guppy company ... might be cause of his much smaller size ? You think it’s bad for him to be the only boesmani ? I couldn’t resist buying him , and I love the other two rainbows I have , they act great and they are growing fast , my point is , I can’t have more cause my tank is not that big , you think the nose and will adapt to Live with the other 2 rainbows of two different species ?

Nice Video! I recently got some Aves Creek Boesemani Rainbows that are around the size of the smaller ones you showed frequently swimming around. Mine have slightly white lips only at the tips and sometimes have a white hanging scale like the boesemani you showed at 8:12 thats at the top of the tank. Is that mouth rot or just a normal injury?
@HoonAquatics
@HoonAquatics 2 жыл бұрын
Rainbows bump into a lot of things. Though it is a minor injury and can heal by itself, it can also lead to infection. Not usually a huge deal. You may want to paint your sides of the tank so they don't ram into the side of the tank and can visualize there is a barrier if I keep swimming into this. Beautiful location of boesemani. Stunning fish

I am not currently breeding boesemani and probably will not resume breeding this species due to it's slow growth. There are a couple great sellers of Boesemani if you're in the US. I would highly recommend the Aves Creek or Lake Uter locations that sport amazingly intense orange. The Village of Aytinjo boesemani are the same collection point as the Lake Uter fish, but later generations of this bloodline are not nearly as intense in coloration as the Uter's that Gilbert Maebe brought to a convention in 2014 where Gary first picked up the Uters
