@donmoyle8063 жыл бұрын
Water flow is slow/even across the whole tank courtesy of a DIY spray bar I made from black poly-pipe. The spray bar kind of disappears into the black background I put onto the rear glass so you can't see it. It's a bit of a trade-off in a CO2-injected tank. Too much turbulence at the surface accelerates off-gassing of the CO2. I also need a wide/general flow to deliver nutrients to the plants evenly. It's a fair point on those rainbows. They are not really the right fish for that kind of tank but I don't want to hurt their feelings :-)

That setup is insane. I am now changing my pond into a plant craze and with some more exotic fish. Thanks Don. But I don’t know how he was able to catch out any of those fish out of either pond. When he was breeding neons and. Catching swordtails and paradise fish. Just amazing. But I’m also scared for him about his fish jumping out the rimless rainbow tank. It is cool to see how fish breed when they are in a natural habitat and also when they are given the correct patience. Noice!!

It was 5C at 6am this morning (coldest morning of the year I think) so it does get a bit chilly but to get that cold, the sky must be cloudless so it will get up to around 21C with blue skies today. @@BenState Yes, it's a Cade "River" series. It's 4 x 2 x 2 (1200 x 600 x 600mm) which is 432 litres if you do the math. In truth, I'd prefer a "widescreen" tank but I'm limited on both space and also how much weight I can load onto that floor. It's not a concrete slab.

What is the KH at the rainbow tank?
@donmoyle8063 жыл бұрын
I don't test regularly (any more) but KH is around 3 - 4 degrees and PH is calibrated (via CO2 injection) to run around 6.5 giving me around 17 - 25ppm CO2. I keep an eye on PH via the permanently-installed PH probe but for other water chemistry, at this stage I only test rarely if I think something looks wrong (can't remember when I last did this). Hope this helps.

@@donmoyle806 thanks for reply. Guess your water is pretty heavily fertilzed. My montecarlo grows epiphyte on rocks only, with quite some nutrients in the water. Mainly phosphorus...🤔
@donmoyle8063 жыл бұрын
@@rara5212 MC seems to have no problem in epiphyte mode. The MC in the pond I started in a tray of gravel but it spurned my tray of gravel and decided to start growing floating in the pond (I tried not to take this rejection personally). The tank water column fert dosing is as per the video. It's roughly "estimative index" in terms of regime but not highly scientific.
