Fantastic recommendations! I laughed when you recommended Trollope for my happy endings no matter how silly. Between every book I read, I reread Trollope so I can safely say now that I'm in my bookish happy place. These are just such great prompts and amazing suggestions - thank you!!

Watching this video of your recommendations of Victorian literature was wonderfully entertaining! The familiarity you have of this genre is massive, and you communicate well the reasons for the selections you chose-love it-thanks Katie!

Although my tbr is pretty filled up by this point, I added many of these to future (and next Victober) tbrs, and I will for sure be watching this video again in future because the recommendation prompts are so great! Though, despite what I did just say about my tbr, lol, I did add in Around the World in 80 Days (for a different reading challenge) purely because you're so enthusiastic about it. Thanks so much for all your thoughtful reviews and videos!

I agree with your stance on Wuthering Heights so much. It's the most beautifully written Victorian book by far. I have never written so many notes so fast in my life. That was A LOT! Wonderful video Katie

I'm re-reading Wuthering Heights right now. A perfect autumn book. I last read it almost three years ago. The prose is really beautiful. Emily was probably the best stylist of the three sisters. Being a poet helps.

Excellent recommendations! Thanks for talking about the crime/thriller elements. I know these are good because I’ve read and loved Bleak House, The Moonstone and Sherlock Holmes. I will definitely try Uncle Silas and the Thomas Hardy. I don’t think I had heard of that one! I read J Sheridan Le Fanu’s Wylder’s Hand last year and it’s definitely a crime/mysterious book. I love that you have recommended something for everyone single prompt here. I also would highly recommend David Copperfield and Betsy Trotwood as an excellent character- Dickens’ characters are so great! Thank you, Katie. 😊📚

Such a great video and my wish list has grown a lot! I’m very interested in Margaret Oliphant and Hester. There are some BBC radio plays of her books as well - interesting! Thanks for all these marvellous recommendations, Katie!

I don't know why but this time of year always makes me want to read Victorian literature! Have flown through Haunting of Hill House, Poe short stories and now reading Frankenstein for this first time! Love your videos, keep it up!

I’ve just read Uncle Silas and it’s been my best surprise so far in Victober- I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did. I also watched the black and white 1940’s film which I found here on this platform and I enjoyed that also! I think he’s becoming a favourite author of mine- I love reading him at this time of the year xx

I'm probably going to start recommending this video to all Victorian Newbies 😁 I'm currently listening to The Pickwick Papers for the Mega Dickens Readalong and you're right, it's quite reminiscent of Diary of a Nobody, I wish there were more Victorian books like them 😞

For children Victorian books I recommend Black Beauty by Anne Sewell and The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald.

Lilith by George McDonald too. According to very ancient Jewish tradition, Lilith refused to lie under Adam (the first created man) as that would show subservience. Adam chased her out of the garden and settled on a more compliant partner created as her replacement, Eve. But this not the end of Lilith in the continuing story of the Genesis.

Enjoying the videos! No Middlemarch ( it seems rather conspicuous by its absence... )?

I'm not a huge fan of Middlemarch myself, but I do often recommend it to others as I know I'm quite unusual in not loving it. I just didn't think of it in relation to any of the questions in this video!

So, I went to wikipedia to look up Deerbrook by Harriet Martineau and found out that the young Victoria loved that book and so invited Harriet to her coronation in 1838.

Just one thing, I like your recomedations, but if you ask me which ones were the first 5 books you recomend I would say I only know Carmilla the rest I don't know it happened too fast. Please slow down when you talk it's way too fast and it's a bit difficult to catch all the info.
