Great ideas. Here's a tip to eliminate the waste on your angled cut offs. For a 3" cleat cut a 6" wide board then just cut your 45° angle down the middle. Two identical pieces, no waste.

Nice ideas ! If you attach the lamp to a caster frame, you can also turn it away. So it doesn't take up so much space. Such a frame also works well for a dust extraction or a power feeder

I did not make any exact plans for these holders because each brand of tool is a little bit different and would require you to modify each holder.

Signed up for the French Cleat on FB, Good to see you back on KZbin making more French Cleat videos. So I have a question about that 3x3 wood turning holder, not that I have a lathe or make one, but the design makes me curious: When it's loaded with the tools; it is easy to get the tool you want? Do you have to pull them out by the blades and reach around the other tools (are they sharp)? I admit that is a good looking holder, but does it work in the shop as you expected?
@SpecificLove7
@SpecificLove7 2 жыл бұрын
Those are some very good questions Ray. The lathe tools are sharp on the ends but not exactly like a knife. If you hit them hard enough, they could cut you, but for the most part a slight bump won't hurt you. I haven't had a chance to use them while turning anything yet but I think it will work well. And yes, you do have to grab them by the metal, but it can be further back where it is not Sharp.
@raymitchell9736
@raymitchell9736 2 жыл бұрын
@@SpecificLove7 That's the thing about shop projects, you have to try them out and see if they're going to work for you. I like the design of it... but time will tell if it is practical. What I liked about the original one is that you can see the tool you want and you can grab it easily by the handle... Another variation on this idea is turn all the tools around so the handles are sticking up... Unfortunately you can't see the tool's tips so you might need to make a new holder where you stagger the tools in 2 rows (maybe 3) making the holder wider but easier(safer?) to grab the tools. The staggered rows could be at the same level, or elevated making each row a bit higher going back. As you know there's so many possibilities and that's what makes this so much fun! 😀 Anyway... I love your creativity and videos and BTW: I was accepted into the FB group, I see your post there. Have a great day!

Awesome content as usual, but how does #19 work? Seems like it would only fit a cleat that is narrower than the frame.

I made my French cleats 5” wide with 5” in between them (I think that is your preferred spacing). I’ve made my reverse cleats 3”. Do these cleat widths sound about right or is it overkill? Appreciate you sharing your knowledge with this DIY wanna-be woodworker enjoying retirement!
@SpecificLove7
@SpecificLove7 10 ай бұрын
Most of my French cleats have a height of about 3.5" and I've not had any issues with them. So 5in might be a little overkill, unless you plan on hanging a bunch of heavy items.

Great ideas as usual! I would like to know how you made those 1/8" recesses for your turning tools. It sounded like you used a Forstner bit but I thought they all had center guides that I didn't see in your work. Did you use a router? Thanks!

For your saw blade holder, maybe reinforce the plate by covering them with duct duct tape to strengthen it. And why not do a cleat with peg board? Could be real useful. Another one is take a coffee can & put your air tool hoses & accessories in the can the put the lid back on it. I've used it on my bench on peg board & it's extremely useful.
