This game is literally burnt into my soul. I will never forget that week I spent playing it. It is absolutely incredible, but the sad thing is i can’t bring myself round to playing it through a second time, just because of the emotional toll it takes on me and just how loaded the story is. Look, if I am being honest, yeah the game was amazing and the story really hit hard but it's not without its flaws, to which there are unfortunately very many that other people don't see. There were many things in the story that either didn't make sense or was just untrue to the message of the first game. I am not going to list all of them, but I just ask people to consider all those problems, and think to themselves, if these changes were necessary. Don't resent the people who hate the game, but try to see where they are coming from. I personally was dissapointed that Neil Druckmann made the call to lie to us in most of the trailers for the game, about Joel being a playable character and that we could experience the dynamic duo again. So bare in mind, yes the game got a lot of rewards, but did it actually deserve every single one?

The story was pretty bad honestly. Not just the joel part because everyone thought he was going to die anyway. It drags at certain points and jumps around alot so the pacing is fucked. It literally has a flashback within a flashback at a certain point and it seems if they had just moved certain moments around they would've had more weight/made more logical sense. Like if joels death came at the halfway point and you played as ellie instead it could have been amazing, playing as abby for the last half was a really bad design choice.

@@flowerpower003 as someone who finished a full run through of TLOU only a few hours ago, I want to remind you that literally all enemies in TLOU attack you if they notice you, regardless of if you’re trying to be violent or not. You can only do so much sneaking, because inevitably you will be located and shot or mauled to death. It’s not fair to say that Joel and Ellie chose violence. In case you forgot, the surgeon at the end of TLOU threatens to kill Joel with the scalpel, even if Joel is just trying to grab Ellie and nothing else. Ellie may be immune but there’s no 100% guarantee that a vaccine could be made from her, and if the vaccine had failed, Ellie would have died for nothing. The virus is global and yet the Fireflies are a scattered few, and only in the States. How could one girls brain cells save a whole planet? When you start off as Sarah(Joel’s daughter) in the first last of us, she walks around the house and finds the birthday card she gave to Joel. The card has a dinosaur on it. It reminded me of the time Joel took Ellie to the museum for her birthday. Then there’s also the part where Joel and Ellie are in that fancy hotel. Joel gets close to the coffee machine and comments how much he misses coffee. Then in the 2nd game Ellie finds him sipping on some coffee & he tells Ellie he wasn’t proud of what he had to trade to get some coffee. When they’re in the vicinity of the university, Ellie randomly mentions how she would’ve loved to have been an astronaut. She then asks Joel what he wanted to be as a kid and he says he wanted to be a singer. She proceeds to ask Joel to sing & says “I won’t laugh.” He simply says no. He finally sings for her in the 2nd game & also makes her dream of being an astronaut possible for her birthday. Later on in the university, Joel falls on a metal pole when trying to fight off an enemy. Both him and Ellie are trying to escape the university while Joel bleeds to death. While Ellie is helping him walk she says “I swear to God, if I get you out of this you’re so singing for me.” Joel responds “you wish.”

A note about Ellie holding her fingers: I actually noticed that that is actually something that the actress (Ashley Johnson) sometimes does as a nervous tick. I wonder if the director noticed this and decided to utilize it within the story.

I don’t think they will. They’re against them. Druckman said that there’s no sense of urgency in Open World games. He’s right.
