This is more than an amazing departure from LaGuardia Airport. This is a video about all of the steps it takes to get to a point where one can get some great views of Manhattan after departing from LaGuardia airport in New York City. I explain how departure procedures work and I include Air Traffic Control so you can hear controllers doing their job to safely separate this A320 from other aircraft. This video is fully explained from start to finish.

I'm a former LaGuardia Tower controller. Your video brings back a lot of memories, although some of the procedures have changed over the years. In my day Clearance Delivery issued either the Whitestone, Maspeth, or the Coney climb-out to runway 13 departures to insure the aircraft avoided Kennedy airspace in case of radio failure. I read often how much passengers hate LaGuardia, but as a controller you love the airport because its so challenging. The intersecting runways require greater ATC skill than parallel runways like at JFK. Plus, because its the preferred airport for corporate traffic, LaGuardia has a wider mix of aircraft types (which means different speeds!) than Kennedy, further adding to the challenge. Ground Control at LGA can be especially difficult because of the airport's small footprint. In fact, Ground Control is the hardest position to qualify on when training in the tower. To this day I still carry and proudly display my Control Tower Operator's Certificate for LaGuardia Tower - perhaps the hardest tower in the country to work, but also perhaps the most fun.

Thanks for yet another spectacular video ! Fascinating panoramas of the land beneath...NYC---boroughs, including breath-taking view of the imposing Manhattan-skyscrapers ! Truly, the NY City never sleeps, but those sleepy passengers who left the window-sheds shut surely missed the superb views...! Because of Peter's close monitoring on the temporal evolution of the new Avatar of La Guardia we get to see the updates. It is a treat to watch Peter's videos with his meticulous observations and his most absorbing narrations on ALL aspects surrounding the diversified characteristics of aviation ! I was just at Shitty Field for a game a couple of Sundays ago… the noise is still there but not as bad… and of course they pass over the field and then turn left and circle back out over the bay. Why do some planes seem to fly past the stadium and some seem to fly over the stadium post departure.

Nice video. You mix and match different bloggers styles in an exquisite way. Not only you portrait the airport and its procedures, but you also playback a clean shot of the takeoff with ATC comms and nice shots of the city as it flew over Manhattan. I loved it. Howdy Peter, great videos with a ton of information, which I enjoy. And since you seem to know EVERYTHING I have an unrelated question to this video. I often see in videos that an airline has purchased an aircraft from another airline, why do they buy used aircraft from other airlines and why is the selling airline selling? If you do answer my dumb question, thanks.

You outdid yourself yet again. Other than flying in and out of LGA, MSP, Vegas, have you flown regularly out of any other airports in the Northeast Corridor Such as BWI, DCA, PHL, or BOS? While you can't beat the views in and out of NYC These other airports that I mentioned provide some picturesque footage. I have become a guru on flight departure and landing patterns at BWI and DCA which provide views not to disappoint. Peter (or anyone that might know the answer to this query), do you know how the various names for the waypoints that are used to navigate a flight are chosen? Someone told me they were names specific to a particular geographical area, but they all seem so random; eg, VOBOZ & GLDMAN in the NYC area. Thanks for any explanation you can provide and I am really glad to have found your channel. Excellent work narrating, really really enjoying it! Cheers 🥂
