Cycling’s unofficial sixth Monument, Strade Bianche, sees the world’s best classics riders descend on Tuscany to wage war over its intricate web of gravel roads. The 184km route remains unchanged from previous years, featuring no less than 63km of gravel across 11 gruelling sectors. Who will claim the top step of the podium in Siena and write their name in the history books?

Amazing race by Pidcock, even he admitted that it wasn’t exactly his plan to do that yet he reaps the benefits of quick thinking and 100% commitment to his move. Congratulations Tommy! Love seeing this guy win because he always keeps it real🎉

poor co-operation from the group, but lets be honest, at least 5 or 6 riders from the group tried on multiple occasions to close down Pidcock and couldnt quite get there, while their lack of co-operation certainly helped, winning from 50km out doesnt just 'happen'...it was a phenomenal ride!

Its a calculated decision and it's quite common for the chase group to have the winner come out of it when not working together when the breakaway is a small group or one person.

The wee man is an incredible all rounder for one so small. Guys with Tom's build used to be pure climbers but his descending, decent sprint etc are very impressive. Hoping he can net a Monument this season.

Unbelievable win, unbelievable. Some comments on here implying that the infighting between the chasers helped, which is perhaps one way of looking at it. The other is that Pidcock’s unexpected break and ultimate strength put pressure on the chasers to ultimately break their resolve to catch him and accept the left overs. Glass half full, rather than half empty. Great job young man. 🥇

@jasonjohnson9072
@jasonjohnson9072 Жыл бұрын
@@veganpotterthevegan that’s what I was thinking. Also, for some in the chase group their only hope is to force others to do more work. Once that starts, the stronger riders attack instead of working. But if no one is strong enough to get away that just makes things worse. It’s not a “missed opportunity” from the chase group. Rather the cumulative result of everyone making the best of the opportunity presented to them.
@veganpotterthevegan
@veganpotterthevegan Жыл бұрын
@Jason Johnson if it was Fabian Cancellara out front, they'd work together to at least try. They took a bet that Tom would crack and that's not an unreasonable bet. He'll get a shorter leash as he does this more.
