Dan, it absolutely boggles my mind, or maybe, blows my mind, how you have put together so many amazingly beautiful scenes and footage of so many different landscapes in all the different seasons and weather conditions. The winter scenes seem more dramatic and amazing to me, not only for their beauty, but also because of the logistics involved in driving, locating, and flying in the cold and snowy weather. You have really created a very impressive body of work that you continue to add to on a regular basis and that will be around for people to marvel at and enjoy for many years, if not forever. I know that it is a labor of love and you should be very proud of what you have accomplished so far. Just… Wow!

Thank you Rick you're too kind! Yes the snow stuff is always my favorite and you're right it definitely takes a bit more effort in driving to locations! That's probably one of the coolest things is that this will be around forever (hopefully) for all to enjoy. I'm humbled at your praise Rick so thank you again!

I watched this video while on the bike. Thanks for letting me enjoy beautiful snow covered mountains without living in snowy states. The Amtrak portion shows some wildlife and so does the Palouse section. That is a bonus!! This video deserves countless thumbs up & stars. Looking forward to the next video.

Thank you, Dan, for this awesome video compilation of trains that you captured in 2024 in the States of Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. The drone and ground footage of the trains and the outstanding scenery the trains were traveling through combined to make this video so great. I appreciate the craftsmanship of your ability to use the drone to combine the trains and the landscape that the trains travel through to create videos for us to enjoy. This is an amazing compilation video. The snowy scenes are my favourite. I love it when the locomotives are covered with snow, icicles and everything is frozen on the units. Your last year was a very productive one. Lots of interesting journeys and great catches. The autumn colors in the bonus footage are faboulous. I really like the ground shots there. We can clearly hear the engines, as they struggle climbing the hills. Fantastic update Dan, thanks a lot for your effort.

This video had to have been so much work for you, great job putting it all together! 👏👏 You truly are the only "rail fan" we keep coming back to and so look forward to what you will do next 😎🇺🇲

1:53 quite challenging images. Drone flying in cold conditions while snow fall.
@TheRailfanDan9 күн бұрын
Thank you! I've actually learned that drones do better in the snow than in the rain. The propellers are able to clear away most of the snowflakes before they have a chance to land on the drone itself so it can actually stay pretty dry depending on the flakes themselves.

amazing, thanks so much Palouse River Canyon is other worldly Your work is spectacular and you must do a lot of planning and traveling to reach some of these remote areas. Must have four-wheel drive on your car. Questions: at 1:28 in video, the barren area, is that a mud side? Where do these hard working engines that travel transContinental reFuel? At Hump yards where they ReShuffle cars? I'll be watching this one again.
@TheRailfanDan2 күн бұрын
Yes the Palouse River Canyon is absolutely magnificent! Yes lots of planning and 4WD. Yes massive mudslide from 2008 that shut the line down for 3 months! Many yards are refueling points for trains by fuel trucks.

Hey were you able to catch the special that went south on the CORP line last week? I saw it parked in Cottage Grove on the siding, and I'm not sure where it went from there (or if it's still there). It's a single UP SD70ACe #8690 followed by a bulkhead flatcar, a 12-axle low-boy heavy fruity flat car loaded with an absurdly huge transformer, and another bulkhead flatcar. When I saw it, I instantly assumed it would be going to the Roseburg Dillard Lumber mill for installation, but who really knows? Anyway, I hope you caught it as that would've been quite the rarity!
@TheRailfanDan2 күн бұрын
No but I saw posts about it and was wondering where it was headed. That would have been nice to catch!
