I think it was the guys on the outside who won more times. They "diamoned" the first turn which gave them a better line through the second turn to keep it in the throttle, while also pinching the inside guy off a little. I don't know if this would work so well with multiple laps; but for one it does fine.

Racing a car through a corner is different from a foot race. Many times the outside car has an advantage. You will see that the outside car has a "diamonded" line to keep it in the gas through the second turn while pinching off the inside car's line a little.
