To be fair in the 1982 comic King of Castle Grayskull - Teela is the guardian of the castle and thinks maybe Skeletor has a legit claim because of his face being similar to the castle. Though he is in disguise per the text, not the art, and has both halves of the sword backing up his claim.

Sure Grayskull looks good on the outside, but curb appeal isn't everything. There's the lack of closet space to consider, the cracked foundation, leaky roof, and horribly out of date kitchen with early 1970's appliances. and don't even get me started on the warped vinyl siding and the fake hardwood floors. Seriously, who has nine bedrooms, but only ONE bathroom?... On the Ground Floor!!! Honestly, he's better to stick with Snake Mountain. Quiet location in the 'burbs, close to schools and shopping, with much better transit access.

I think it was a couple of years ago that DC comics did a multiverse He-man story where all the different incarnations of He man had to band together and fight. The classic filmation, the original comic, the 87 movie version, the He man in space ect. Well they even went to a reality where Keldor never became Skeletor and wound up being the hero of the series. It was a really good read.

There were also several interviews which stated or heavily implied that the future of the brand would pick up on those plot threads of a Multiverse. I would love to see this continued!

To be honest, the OT also had no coherent trilogy plot, because there were no plans for a trilogy until after the first film was the giant success it was. Funnily enough, the prequels are the Star Wars trilogy that actually had a planned plot beforehand, and most people wouldn't say that was a good thing. It's still baffling that Disney of all companies allowed JJ Abrams to set the first movie without getting him to plan out a follow-up for the next two.

As a kid I always used to wonder if Skeletor was the original owner of Castle Greyskull. However I never saw him as the hero, rather I simply assumed that at some point in the past he was still evil, but Castle Greyskull was his home base from which He-Man and his friends kicked him out in order for him to become less powerful and they were simply stopping him from regaining the Castle in order to protect the Universe from his evil ways. I thought that was clear from the series. Castle Grayskull has secrets which presumably unlock powerful magic. With this magic, Skeletor could conquer Eternia or perhaps the Universe. The Sorceress and her champion He-Man are sworn to prevent Skeletor or another evil being from discovering these secrets. What exactly the "secrets of Castle Grayskull" are is irrelevant, we care only that Skeletor wants them and it would be very bad if he got them. They're a McGuffin. That said, in one episode He-Man pled the Sorceress to (temporarily) grant him "the strength of the Secrets". Doing this VASTLY increased his strength and enabled him to throw Castle Grayskull itself into the air. So we could see why Skeletor would want such power.

The twist on Keldor is interesting. But I have started to dislike the trend of graying things up too much. Oh, Skeletor SHOULD be the rightful ruler. Megatron really was fighting for equal rights of other transformers. I mean, something to give the character depth is fine. But when it starts to come off in there really aren't any good guys territory it really starts to undermine the fun for me. It almost seems like a future story will reveal that Richards really did cause Doom's machine to scar his face because he didn't know it was magic. I don't, maybe I am just old grumpy pants. Anyway, rant over, your channel is great. I don't mean any of that negatively towards you. Or the person that came up with the idea.

Note in the first episode of the cartoon the elders leave and make a very surprised Randor king to replace them. There is no royal family in the cartoon Randor was the first king in a thousand years. Thus the warlord Keldor would have no royal birthright in the 2002 cartoon.

There is something I thought about recently, which I've never seen explained in one of your videos (Hint, Hint ;-). Why is it that She-Ra's sword needs a stone to have power, but He-Man's doesn't? I had always assumed their swords were brother and sister. I remember an old Filmation episode where the stone in her sword broke, and Adora was unable to change into She-Ra.

As I recall from the comic itself, it never went into the explanation as to why Skeletor wanted to keep Randor and He-Man from finding Keldor.

Classics Grayskull didn't come with an orb, but it did come with a neat stand and a cubby hole for one. I ended up using a misty quartz sphere with added blue LED back lighting for mine. Works perfectly!

Many years ago, before the fall of the housing market, Skeletor went to a bank to buy this inexpensive property out in know where and to build a castle that looks like his face. Because the land had a bottomless canyon through it the cost was low due to appreciation value, however the building costs were quite substantial. Skeletor of course isn’t very bright and instead of choosing a 15 year fixed plan, went with a 30 year flex arrangement. Then housing market tanked and the bank doubled his payments. Next thing you know, they foreclose and sell it for just the principle amount, to a bird sanctuary consortium. Ever since then Skeletor has tried to get Sorceress out of there and has attempted to squat there many times.

Filmation showed a lot of the concepts from MOTU w/o ever really explaining it properly. I think that's why I like 200X the most out of every MOTU show, because it took the time out to try & explain things & expanded on the lore. I know if they'd had a 3rd season, then it would've revolutionized the entire property (even more so than it already has).

To be fair, I've seen it spelt "Greyskull" on official stuff, too, but I'm having trouble finding the images. The one I remember most prominently was in "The Shaping Staff," when the disguised Beast Man and Evil-Lyn were discussing annexing the castle into Eternos territory, and the map scroll they had in front of them had that spelling. But as a former colleague of mine with the surname Gray pointed out: "Gray is a name, grey is the colour."

One of my English lecturers would say to us "grEy for English, grAy for American"... he also said the version of Gray/Grey w.r.t. a person's name largely depends on whether their family is American or from the rest of the English-speaking world. He did also say that the spelling use in an official/proper noun capacity *should* the one used when writing something down (like Greystoke Castle in England, and Castle Grayskull in Eternia)... then again, he also said that he personally couldn't take the 'Grayskull' spelling seriously and would always 'correct' it to Greyskull, saying "These people still insist on using feet and inches instead of metric units; how can we trust them to spell *anything* properly in English?", so I guess the UK English/US English war is not over yet... 😅

​@@vladt7150 Personally, even as an English person -- probably BECAUSE I'm an English person -- I prefer the Imperial measurement system. In the words of Brian Albumen, "Any fool can calculate metrically. Figuring out weights in pounds, ounces, drams, and scruples honed the British brain and built the Empire!" 😉🤣 Also, the co-worker whose name was spelt "Gray" was Enlgish, too. As for the spelling of "Grayskull," well, it's copyrighted and trademarked as such, so that's the "correct" spelling. Also, it's based off the name of King D'Vann Grayskull, so it's a proper name. 😉

One thing I noticed happened to Skeletor's motivators on the minicomics, on Filmation, and on the early 2000's series, Skeletor's motivation always degenerates from wanting to enter Castle Grayskull, and obtain the secret powers within, to wanting to conquer and rule over Eternia, to just wanting to mess up with that musclebrain He-Man! And I think the reason why this happened is that you can only have the villain fail at their objective so many times before the audience starts seeing them as a loser who's never going to accomplish anything, which removes any resemblance of threat they might have had.

Skeletor wants conquest of Eternia and the known universe and believes Castle Grayskull will make him invincible and all powerful. The question is why? There are many possibilities. It's possible before becoming Skeletor, Keldor may had consulted a oracle and was told his destiny was to become master of the universe and that he was to break in and conquer Castle Grayskull and uncover it's secrets and another possibilites, Skeletor could be a dark reincarnation of King Grayskull.

I always thought the sword was the thing he was after. The castle was just the home of the sword...of course I was really young back then so what did I know....I mean he say he held aloft the MAGIC SWORD and does shout "by the power of gray skull......I HHHAAAAVVEEE THEEEE POOOWWEERRRR"

To be fair, the original intention was the complete sword was a key to Castle Grayskull, and He-Man and Skeletor had each a half of the power sword. Mind you, that is in the original comics. I was always amazed as a wee child that Skeletor had a purple version of He-Man's sword that snapped together with He-Man.

I am sure there is a plot twist to it. Why should the bosses of orco gain all the cosmic energy in one place - and make a sword out of it of all things? Then just give it to a random warrior on a planet which just so happens to resonate well with magic? Maybe they harvest the magic of etheria for themself and have multible "swords" spread around the universe(s).

It's funny how deep the mythology goes for this property. I was 3ish when the brand launched back in 82 and really always thought it was tailored just for 3-year-olds who mostly just kind of outgrew the brand because military action like Rambo and Commando and Predator was just more prevalent than fantasy in the coming years in general pop culture. Even being a pretty fanatical He-Man kid from 3 to 5 the MOTU cast really got reduced to background characters in our Thundercats, Silverhawks, and eventually Turtles adventures. Really less prevalent than the clearance bin toys that entered the collection because they were discounted in late Match or early July when birthdays came up with less Christmas advertising. I feel like Fisto was the peek with the Lizard from the Live action movie and Rio Blast being late-line figures that would have been fun to have in the toybox.

I remember castle grayskull confusing the shit out of me as a kid, like why do the heroes reside in the evil looking castle that literally has a massive skull on the front while the villain is a (talking) skull. Any other hero vs villain cartoon or film would have the heroes in a 'nice' looking place while the villains resided in the dark, gloomy, ominous places.
