Most of the backlash could've been avoided if they had warned their customers in advance that to keep annual plan price the same they will offer add ons outside of it.

@@SupercyMusic Not really, they are in breach of contract. "All updates" to the "complete package" means all updates, including add-ons. People on the upgrade plan are entitled to these add-ons. Upgrades are described in their own EULA as including "newer versions of the Final Version as well as add-ons which extend the Final Version’s functions in all editions except the Demo Edition."
@Nosh_Feratu2 жыл бұрын
problem is it contradicts their own EULA which clearly states that all upgrades (which includes add-ons) are included free as part of the annual subscription to Bitwig Studio. . .so they are completely unable to justify this, excerpt from said EULA below: 1.3: "This EULA also applies for upgrades. Upgrades include newer versions of the Final Version as well as add-ons which extend the Final Version’s functions in all editions except the Demo Edition." 2.5: the user "is entitled to receive free Upgrades for a period of 12 months, beginning with the registration of the license in the Bitwig user account. The User has the right to install and perpetually use all Upgrades, including newer versions of Bitwig Studio, which are being published during this period for his/her edition."

I don’t like subscription models for daws and plugins etc. I’ll never update my BW. Ableton is good enough for me. It’s not perfect but does the job.
@SupercyMusic2 жыл бұрын
I also really don't like subscription models. Even Presonus seems to be pushing Studio One users to their subscription model based platform called Sphere. That's also part of the reason why I'm currently looking around.

This is 1000% what I've felt after receiving the newsletter. It bothers me a lot. Just updated for one year and now I feel betrayd. I dont' know what I'm paying for any more. Will the next Grid version also be an addon? The next Ultra-Cool-Special-Delay (just because they name it "special"?). What's the point of paying anual for "all"? At least in the past years, all it was and you knew you are on the cutting edge. Now you are left behind if you don't pay follow-ups. Feels a litle like taking new stuff as hostages and we have to pay for freeing them.

Price wise Bitwig already was on the more expensive side, if you ask me (at least, for anyone who wants to stay up to date), and then on top of that this add-on business ... 👎 My subscription expired last month; I'm so glad that I didn't renew right away.

you nailed it - 1 format should be vst/AU 2 "the first" ? - sounds like we have to lever a 300++$ every year for the Studio AND the extras . 3 and all this in the midst of a recession - my best wishes to Berlin Now they have groomed enough they enter the rip off phase . And now is the moment to point out the short comings of Bitwig in comparision to ANY other DAW : No video and as a Mac user - no AU support As a result I will brush up my LogicX skills and finally dive into REAPER ..

Certainly, you're not alone... I have seen many videos of people complaining about the same topic, and I can't see Bitwig devs will change the deal as they already changed their policies in their website. I'm not a bitwig user, but I can feel the fraud they did to their costumers.
@SupercyMusic2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! My subscription expired last month. I'm very happy now that I didn't renew right away, and unless something drastically changes in their policies, I certainly won't renew. But I'm afraid you're right, they're probably not gonna change their minds.

I really don't know why you got heat. The updates of the latest year where crappy. Phaser+,Flanger+, Delay+, Shit+ ... all modules I could build with the grid. The are presets frozen as devices. The only good one was the convolution, we've been asking for years and years. Now they release the cool ones and we need to pay more ?...fuk them, but no. I'll stick to Studio One.

I agree 100% with you. You made a good and very important point: You are not able to use this "add on" in other DAW's. I can only speak for me, but I will go with REAPER. My add-on's will be products from Artura or uh-e and other great companies. My goal is independence [and diversity] from DAW and hardware manufacturers. I have to protect myself as a user!

Man, when so much cool shit exists on iOS and costs generally like 10 percent of what the exact same thing costs on a “computer” it really seems foolish to pull a stunt like this. dRambo, BM3, Loopy Pro, Cubasis are all awesome and that’s just scratching the surface.

They could've charged an easy 100 for the suite but make it free for current Bitwig licensees. That way they satisfy current users and attract new ones. It's an inconsiderate move in my pov

I've watched a couple of other videos about DAW change overs and Upgrades. I think all DAW producers have all sorts of hidden extras (maybe minus Reaper)? I think it's something you just have to expect. Studio One have the new 6 upgrade but that doesn't mean anything to me as I'm happy with Studio one 5 and don't plan on upgrading at all. I still use Studio one 4 for my older projects. You've got to be able to see through these upgrades and ask yourself - Do I really need this upgrade? There's a ton of stuff in all DAW's that I and loads of other people don't use. All these extra features can get in the way of what most of us want to do and that is make music.
@vroteg2 жыл бұрын
The problem is Bitwig take money in advance. So we pay for furure updates. Not upon update. And asking for more money after the promise that all updates and upgrades are for free unacceptable. Especially for very useful devices for the DAW they positioning as creative environment.
