I agree that the script is weak, Lea Seyoux's character is very underwritten and that the nostalgia can get in the way at times. So it's pretty much a guilty pleasure for me. 7/10

+Kyle Sofia Nolan To be fair it was highly unlikely they could of topped Skyfall...it was the 50th anniversary after all, despite what you say it is one of the highest grossing bond films made thus far so it isn't nearly as much as a disappointment as you are saying. I do agree that it had its rough patches here and there and some of the worst cliches imaginable, but me and my friends loved it when we went to see it, there is no such thing as a bad bond film.

+Kyle Sofia Nolan Yeah, well.... this and the Train Fight Scene. Only redeeming parts of the entire film.
@alexfryerpro19939 жыл бұрын
+JayCee I'm inclined to agree with you on how unlikely it could topped Skyfall. As a fan of Skyfall I think one would have to appreciate that once Sam Mendes set the bar high with one of highest grossing and most critically acclaimed bond film to date, the pressure is on to meet expectations and sometimes that can contribute to a directors downfall in a sequel. Take JJ Abrams Star Trek: Into Darkness for example, he was met with acclaim with his 2009 reboot (while having some backlash from hardcore Trekkies or Trekkers) only leading himself to create a film that is not as strong as its predecessor. The same could be said for Peter Jackson when he directed The Hobbit trilogy. The schedule and pressure was so intense that the result was not so withstanding. The point is that I think its best not to expect too much (we're all entitled to our opinions either cause film is subjective) from an anticipated follow up.

@tinrajkovic71143 жыл бұрын
There were many movies filmed earlier than Birdman with a single cut. Russian Ark is a great example
@jakealhalabi81943 жыл бұрын
@@DunkIeosteus bird man has like 15 cuts by the end of the film. I would say the majority of it is “one” shot but bird man is a bad example because the ending does have obvious cutting. I think the first film to truly do it was Russian Ark, which was filmed completely in 3 takes (2 rehearsal I think). You also have Rope (1948) which was 9 takes (or setups in this case) that were edited together to make it seem like one (though it’s usually a simple fade to black by going behind a shirt or object). Then you have 1917, which seems like it is completely “one “ take. ( reason for quotation marks is it isn’t actually one take, but multiple takes that are seamlessly edited together to mimic a single take). But overall, they are all still fascinating in their own way.

My dad was a huge Bond fan. He always liked Connery the best but Daniel Craig was a very close second. I didn't understand why, mostly because i spent my time rewatching the Roger Moore films and had never even seen a Daniel Craig Bond movie. But Fathers day 2015 my mother got the whole family tickets to see Spectre in theatres. And this opening shot was enough to convince me that this man really is James Bond, no question about it. Since then i've seen all Daniel Craig Bond films. My only regret is that i didn't see Casino Royale first. This scene is everything Bond, and it really shows that Daniel Craig has grown in to the role. Simply amazing

The music is ridiculously good. The opening beat is so sensual, it will make the dead move. The way the percussion pattern changes as the scene progresses is wonderful. Initially the pattern accents the downbeat with a big, low drum, but after Marco Sciarra passes Bond and Estrella it changes: first to keep time for 6 bars; then to launch another even better pattern that accents beat 3. The percussion drops out as they enter the hotel (to accommodate a mariachi tune in 6/8) but resumes in perfect time, continuing behind the song playing on their elevator ride. The steady tempo continues as they enter the room, where the dialog and percussion fit each other perfectly. The Bond theme first enters at 2:37 on a low flute and at 2:45 rhythm guitar with the classic Bond tone enters, all behind the percussion playing variations on that initial beat. As he steps out of the window they added two extra beats, so when the orchestra enters at about 3:03 the two align perfectly (I love the way the orchestra enters on beat two of the measure instead of the downbeat). The percussion continues behind the orchestra, but by the time Bond approaches the wall to take the shot the percussion is barely audible and the orchestra dominates. The music reflects what Bond is hearing as he transitions from the celebration to the work at hand. The whole thing is brilliant. Shame they can’t give out Oscars for segments like this.

Spectre has the best pre title sequence in the Craig era i think. Casino Royale and Skyfall have epic title sequences while NTTD has a lengthy and action packed opening. Quantum of Solace has an interesting but much too fast opening. But the effort and colour put into this and in addition the camera work make this the most memorable opening.

I'm so glad that tracking shots have replaced shaky cam and dutch angles as the new film technique fad. Tracking shots are pleasant to the eye. The other two just make me want to throw up in the theater. (Seeing the first Hunger Games movie in IMAX was not a pleasurable experience, even though I enjoyed the movie as a whole. So much shaky-cam...) I saw Spectre at the Seattle Cinerama and by the time this shot was over, I had already gotten my money's worth. (But I went ahead and enjoyed the rest of the movie anyway.)

Technically it's a very well done single long shot. Can't imagine how the camera man managed to get over the building and walk with the artist whilst on the wall of the building and followed him till the end. @@spencerleo5126 Yes! I thought the same as well!
