Speech Practice (Hatsune Miku V4X & V2 comparison)

This is a brief comparison between Hatsune Miku's original Vocaloid2 voicebank and her V4X Original voicebank. These are the only two voicebanks I can really compare right now, since I don't have her V2 Appends, nor V3 for that matter.
They definitely sound pretty close to eachother, but not exactly 100%. With the additional use of triphones and fixed vowel transitions that V4X has, you can definitely tell it's a lot smoother by comparison. And while the overall improvements are nice n' all, I will always love her V2 voicebank more.
IDK, I guess that kinda rough, slightly robotic sound of her's just stuck with me a lot throughout my time spent listening to Vocaloid.
Besides, none of these popular songs would even exist had Miku (or Rin, Len, and Luka for that matter!) never been released on V2.
Okay, I think I'm getting way to ahead of myself...I srsly need to chill out.

Agreed. It’s nice to see Vocaloid taking a more realistic approach in recent years, but it feel pretty jarring at the same time. Just sorta feels like almost every producer these days are trying to copy Mitchie M or something, and it’s kinda already gone beyond that point since V4. Sometimes I think the overall “robotic” nature of the Cryptonloids’ V1 and V2 voicebanks suit their style a lot better. Would be nice if most Vocaloid editors came with an option to turn off triphones to make them sound closer to V2-era voicebanks.

Danieru Mega tuning is more of a layer onto the original voicebank underneath, so it does matter even if really well tuned. That’s why rin and len sound a bit different compared to now, because their v4 packages don’t come with a recreation of their vocaloid 2 main voices (instead they use v2 append power as a substitute) unlike miku v4x.

Good news! They are trying to replicate the sound of V2 with a new version called Miku NT. However, it ended up sounding a bit too childish (at least in the demo prototype version we have) and most people don’t like it🙁

@@Lemieux_channel yeah i preordered her the day the news came out! her pronunciation is really similar to V2 and she has the same low end as miku V2 too, but she is sort of choppy and noisy to work with. with enough tuning you can get her to sound pretty good although the noise is still there. i personally don't think NT gets enough credit from people, but it's also got issues which should be dealt with, especially the engine noise.

They've always used the same recordings for V2/V3/V4. They just cleaned up and enhanced the samples for V4 to make it sound a little more closer to V2 Miku's tone, due to some complaints about her V3 voicebank sounding nothing like her. To be honest though, I couldn't really tell much of a difference between V2 and V3, voice-wise. She's always sounded pretty much the same to me no matter what version of Vocaloid she's been updated for. V3 English, on the other hand, sounded absolutely nothing like her though.

No it's not, Miku V4 has some new recorded samples from Saki's voices, that's cause there are many difference between Miku V2 and V4, i opened Miku's voicebanks database and i saw that Miku V2 has 3 pitches, Miku V3 has 4 and Miku V4 original vb has 5, so that's cause there are many differences between both voicebanks, as you can see, they have differences in some phonemes pronunciation, also the engine and samples configuration changed the clearness and smoothness of the v4 voicebank

Exactly,Miku can be high and low in voice range,though lower range do sound awkward unless it is append. Rin can beat Miku in terms of how high their voice can reach. Even Prima can be tied with or beat Miku in reaching higher notes.

For those wondering, they're singing the Japanese alphabet. The alphabet is sectioned off in rows of different types of sounds. The first row is the "vowels", with a, e, u, e', o. And then rows of "consonants". Hard consonants, like those with hard C and K, sounds have a row, then consonants with the Sh sound, and so on.

Although the difference are pretty subtle,but this is what I can hear: V4x sounds sharper and clearer,while V2 sounds a bit softer,but still understandable due to software being less advanced in the past. V2 seems to hold the notes a bit in each syllable while V4x is able to cut it short without holding the notes too much. Finally,V4x sounds like an improvement while V2 is the usual Miku sound. Either way,I still like both of them since they are the same Miku after all.

Her new outfit makes me so sad. What happened to my iconic miku… the grey shirt, the bell sleeves, her yellow tag, the clearly pleated skirt.. her striped hair bands.. her giant tie with black clips :( Her old silhouette is literally so iconic, the big sleeves and the way the bottom of her shirt and her skirt puff out combined with her giant puffy pigtails was so instantly recognizable. There’s a reason if you asked somebody who didn’t know much about vocaloid to draw miku, it’d probably look more like her v2 design. everyone who says V2 is better, only says that because it's nostalgic. Yeah I have fond memories of V2 too, and she's still cute, but her voice is JANK. It actually doesn't really sound good once you compare it to V4x. V4x sounds like miku, it's clear, it has emotion, it's a beautiful voicebank. And it is better. And don't get me wrong I love V2, it's classic miku, but V4x will always be better and favorable in my opinion.

V4X similarly sounds like Teto's UTAU VB, but more defined. If Miku is gonna get a V5X, who knows if it could be as similar as a SynthV AI voice? Still, Crypton is aiming for more realistic like voices, yet keeping the robotic voices we know. Most likey Miku isnt gonna get a V5X and will change to SynthV AI, as Crypton confirmed they're working on more VBs for Miku. V2, sounds more like Miku. The robotic voice fits her style and the choppines just makes it better. Edit: Hah, i never dug deep into the situation, but crypton isnt working on Miku anymore.
