Hendrix - like most of the '60s and early '70s performances were castrated by crappy sound-systems, mixboards, etc. I've thought SRV's tributes to Hendrix were his way of attempting to rectify the loss of future generations to that outstanding music.

SRV is my favorite performer of all time, in his very short life he impacted the music industry so much that it's still feel today. I read and seen some of the best guitar players say that they dream of the day they can play at half his skill. He continues to influence people even today in many ways including to get sober and it's TRUE that you can say sober! His man was even afraid after he got sober that he wouldn't be able to play at the level that he did before. My self think he was just as good that last song he play with so many of his friends as the early years. I will alway love his music, today people write and sing hoping to for a #1 hit! He just played and open up his heart and hoped he was loved! He lived breathed every thing about his music and it shows in ever more. Ur right he could feel it all the way to his soul because it was his soul he was allowing us to hear thru the strange of that so famous guitar!!!! God bless SRV and thanks for allowing us what very little time we had with him. cherish every moment because you're not promised the next second!!!!!

There are many amazing guitarists. There are guys who were/are really technical and fast. There are guys with great feel and soul. In my opinion SRV was the most well rounded guitarist with soul, speed, vibrato and technical perfection all in one. Just watch how he rarely ever looks at his guitar and never misses a note. I compare him to Michael Jordan because he was born with a gift, loved his craft and worked harder than anyone else. That’s what made them both the G.O.A.T.!!!

I was typing a comment his ability to fly around that guitar. Then you touched on it.That talent only comes from decades of constant dedication. I have friends(No where as talented) but have had the same life long passion for guitar. Its really is a connection with the guitar, 90% of the greatest guitarist i have even seen live, all perform with a guitar that is older. Becuase of its tone, feel, or what ever it is. They respect it and guitarists look at their guitar collection as almost a member of the band due to how much of a role it plays in the music. He had many guitars but his SRV insignia guitar is probably his most iconic. It also helped that he had giant strong hands. Dacades ago my father(not a small man in any respect) ran into SRV and he said "it was the first time I remember the physical hand shake" he said he felt like a child shaking a grown mans hand. It doesn't make you a better guitarist, but having good tools always makes creating easier. A sharp chisel cuts better, his hands allowed him to easier perform the maneuvers he envisioned.

I graduate college w/ an older lady at the time that remembered a teenager living on her couch in Austin who played for different bands that needed a guitarist. She said he slept w/ his guitar at his side. Her husband also a local guitarist told her this kid was going to be big one day. So you were right, it was a guitar relationship! I was in awe. Especially when he came up to the front of the stage and sat on the edge to play Riviera Paradise. I'm surprised my eyes didn't pop out of their sockets trying to see just how his hands were moving on that guitar. But you could've shut your eyes and felt the soul in that music.

Stevie was a true Texas gentleman as well. I went to an album signing at a music store in Dallas in the mid 80's. There were so many people there that Stevie didn't have time to sign for everyone as his manager was telling him to leave. Stevie said that he at least wanted to shake every person's had that has come out. And that's what he did. So, I never got an autograph but I did shake his hand. Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan are the only two guitarists that I've experienced in my life that you actually feel like their soul is speaking to you through their guitar playing. The way they played guitar was so beautiful to watch because you really feel like they are speaking their absolute truth to you. You can't fake that, I think that's why you can connect so deeply with it. It's also exhausting in some ways because they pour so much of themselves into their playing. That's why I think Stevie sweat so much, there's so much emotion and soul being channeled into his playing. This is what music is all about.

Great guitar players often take their music and style somewhere nobody else has gone. Originality has the sound of magic and if you enjoy what the performer is doing, they can take you somewhere you’ve never been. Was Stevie the best? Good question but I don’t think there is a technically correct answer. He was awe inspiring, entertaining to watch, and certainly great. If you listen to a lot of Hendrix, you can hear where some of his inspiration came from and the rest is just him. “The rest” is what makes him great, Jimi laid the ground work, Stevie took it further.

Click on any SRV video and be amazed...have to watch him live to really enjoy. VooDoo Child, Texas Flood (has some surprises for you)...all good because he was the best. Lost his at the age of 35 in a helicopter crash. Little Wing and VooDoo Child were Hendrix songs but, I like SRV versions better. Stevie’s hands were so strong, he had to use 12 gauge strings, with his estring being 13 gauge because he broke them too easy. Jimmie Vaughn his big brother was an inspiration to him growing up.

I live in Dallas and I’m from the same area he grew up in called Oak Cliff, my friends would drive down to Austin back in the early 80’s and would catch him or his brothers band playing off sixth street. We would try to go down every weekend. I remember how young and so very talented he was. We all knew it was just a matter of time before he hit super stardom... R. I . P.. SRV

BB King & Stevie Ray Vaughn used to play together some & BB said Stevie Ray was one of the worlds best guitarist. I personally think Stevie Ray & BB are both 2 of the best guitarists to ever hit planet earth!!!! Both in Guitar 🎸 hall of Fame 👍

It's heartbreaking SRV is no longer with us. He was an astounding musician and would have only gotten better......

Well, bless Jimi for creating this masterpiece, and Stevie for using it as a hydraulic press to squeeze every last drop of pain from my aching soul! - What Stevie does to that guitar in this song could make Jenna Jameson blush.

Stevie Ray Vaughan was 35 when he died in a helicopter crash outside East Troy, Wisconsin, August 27, 1990. The previous day, Vaughan had relayed to his bandmates a disturbing dream he had where he witnessed his own funeral.
