No. Keep her drab olive. I know the RR Eagle doesn't have enough power to pull your foreskin back, but it sounds nice. What about doing a compound turbo set up on it, a la Cummins drag/tractor pulling boyos? Just a suggestion. Mind you, that turbo looks miniscule. Just whack a fucking ma-hoosive big single turbo on it. - If it works, do the same t'other Foden. The tidy one.

In 1986 my old TA unit was given 8 new Foden's at £167,000 each. They replaced 2 Scammell EKAs, 3 Leyland Martians and 3 Scammell Explorers. When lads from our unit visited the REME museaum in Germany and were given a guided tour, the guide showed them an Explorer and told them they went out of service in the 60s. They all fell about laughing and the guide didnt beleive they were still in use.

That M52A2 has a Continental Multifuel Engine. On top of the transmission is an air valve, to change direction of the sprag unit in the transfer transmission. After backing up you must start in first gear to change the travel direction of the sprag unit. If axle starts trying to drag backwards, the air lines at air valve on the main transmission are switched. 23 years working on those. The early 2.5 tons had a mechanical linkage, again from reverse into first gear. The later had an air valve in the cab to engage the front axle. High and low transfer positions worked the same for both.

For some reason mice get into damp dusty old pianos and i think he could smell them on the keys. Reminds me a little of a mental collie my mum had, which used to walk across the organ pedals. It was scared of the ceiling and also sunlight for some reason, it was more akin to Bjork than Mozart. Ted by contrast looks like a great dog, notwithstanding the propensity to eat dung. No-one's perfect i suppose...

2:43 It's so refreshing that someone actually knows what Anderson connectors (leads) are, it seems lots of recovery operations (A well known one that works in the sand in the USA for example) don't. Very useful to wire in next to the battery (Jaguar XJ220) and on the end of a set of jump leads. Also available in red (and blue and yellow, etc)

Nice one. It does amaze me that these vehicles were soooo over serviced in the Military, they are then removed from service and the whole engine and attached components go to "ratshit"......No servicing at all. Used to have the AEC Mk3 as a wrecker in RCT up till 88, after that i think this beastie emerged. Nice to see the "guts" of the vehicle. Keep posting guys. EDIT. Is this the same cab and engine as used on the Foden HMLC Drops?

Hey it’s time you were kinder the Smiths gauges. Many of them are over 50 years old and have not been cared for in the least. They were an average gauge designed for the motor industry in the fifties sixties so they were designed to a price. Yes, many will now require replacement but that is not bad for vehicles that has been neglected for twenty to thirty years. You forget how well much of this was when correctly serviced. The problems set in when the money men in the MoD decided to extend pack life without consulting those who knew. So a 432 started with a life of 3000 hours extended to 5000 extended to 8000 and the savings were wonderful or were they. In 1976/7 there were no fan belts and few windscreens for soft vehicles so they all sat in dead parks. But the money managers know all!! That is how military savings are made and if you ask the right questions today the answers are probably the same. The only thing you can guarantee is they will prevaricate from making an honest answer.

Is this Foden unusual with an RR C series diesel rather than a Perkins 290?
@woods457 Жыл бұрын
The Rolls Royce "Eagle" was used in a lot of British trucks, Foden, Seddon Atkinson, ERF, Leyland and Scammell, i think when Perkins bought Rolls Royce's diesel division they took over the production of it and renamed it inline with their product line. I used to work on the 265 version with a "Majormech" fuel pump if my memory serves me, i think CAV ended up taking over them.
@markbowler8091 Жыл бұрын
Rolls Royce produced the Eagle engine as a cheaper ‘commercial vehicle’ engine and the C Series engines were the more expensive industrial engines. But in some instances they classed Eagles as C series 🥹 Later when Perkins bought Rolls Royce Diesels, the Eagles (and the rest of the engine range) became ‘Perkins’. Sorry for being an engine geek😇
